This album is a very famous Dead show recorded at their prime in the early seventies. The blurb on the album tells the story of how "back on August 27th, 1972, the Grateful Dead journeyed to Veneta, Oregon, to link up with Ken Kesey and the Merry Pranksters for a benefit show for the Kesey family's Springfield Creamery. The band played through a number of tracks, including "Sugar Magnolia," "Promised Land" and a 30-minute version of "Dark Star." The gig became well known to fans as a particularly noteworthy Dead show, living on as the unreleased concert film Sunshine Daydream". This has now been addressed and the show and the rather quaint if dated hippie style DVD are an essential Dead artefact.

The show itself is the standard Dead concert set list of this period. What is notable however is that where the official document "Europe 72" has often been criticised for being slightly too studio polished this album feels more authentic. It is includes the best version of "Bird Song" this reviewer has had the pleasure to hear plus a storming "Greatest story ever told" and "Sugaree" The version of "Dark Star" soars on this album and the band is tighter than lockjaw. All in all this would be a fantastic introduction to anyone contemplating an exploration of the music of Garcia, Weir. Lesh and Co and if you are already in the "Deadhead Camp" the album is more icing on the cake.
