I have to admit, I'm a sucker for a pretty set of headphones. Or in this case, a handsome set. The soft brown leather on the headband and the padded ear cups is so rich looking and it contrasts beautifully with the brushed aluminum on the outside. It gives them a classic rich look. They are without a doubt the nicest looking headphones that I've used. The padding makes them cushy over the ears. That's right, these are ear cups that cover your ears rather than sitting against them. I found this to be good in terms of noise isolation and giving me a feeling of "being there" with the music while listening. It's also more comfortable when wearing them for long periods. The top headband is also padded and adjustable. Because the headphones are a bit on the heavy side, even with the padding, the top of my head feels a little uncomfortable when wearing them for over an hour and I have to shift them to make them comfortable again.

I listened to a few Aerosmith and Black Eyed Peas tunes when I first put them on and the bass blew me away. These are great headphones for powerful sounding bass. We've owned a Velodyne subwoofer for a few years that does an excellent job so I kind of expected the great bass response that these headphones put out. Next, I listened to John Williams Greatest Hits 1969-1999. This includes the Star Wars, Superman Theme, Jurassic Park and a bunch of other movie themes, some popular and some classical types. This was a great test for these headphones. I was afraid that the bass might end up overpowering, but I needn't have worried. The high notes were well defined as well as all the mid range. Sometimes the highs seemed boosted because they were so clear, such as in the theme from Home Alone, but to my ears it sounded excellent.

Hugely disappointed by the product having used a similar product from the same manufacturer in the past. Was purchased as a gift for my son but have to return as the item not working as described & also its not worth for the amount it is selling for.

I was about to buy beats by dre over ear headphones then after research everyone said there are way better headphones at that price and even less. so i started to think maybe it's true, maybe dre headphones are just advertised better than most.. so i looked around at tons of websites to find the perfect headphones.

i came across a site where whilst reading about high end headphones (around £1000-£2000) i saw a velodyne over ear headphone and because i have a subwoofer from velodyne which is ridiculously bassy i thought i should look into the velodyne headphones and find out if they're any good. i saw video reviews on youtube and read reviews on google and thought its a risk but i'll take it.

i'm glad i did take the risc because these are perfect, the song sounds exact like it should.

I absolutely love these headphones. The styling is superb. The inside contrasting to the outside with the blue (inside cups) against the Brown leather is just amazing to look at. They size is just perfect for all head sizes. So glad I bought these! Highly recommendable!

Beautiful, but flawed 21 Nov 2013

Beautiful headphones. Brushed metal on the earcups and rubber-leather on the earpads and headband. Very cool. Shockingly, these are on-ear, not around-ear headphones, the blue cushion inside the earcups is what touches the ears. The brown earpads are just there for show and isolation, not cushioning. Very strange design-choice for such a big and (fairly) heavy headphone. The clamping force is low, but the headband is too thin (you can feel the 2 metal bands inside) and the earcups dont rotate so they will not fit everybody comfortably.

Sound quality: fairly good, but overall a foggy and bassy soundpicture. More clarity across the spectrum would have been nice. Furthermore the sound is a little electrical/artificial. Average soundstage and instrument detail in that music stays mainly in your head, it doesn't move around much. Overall they sound more like a 100$ headphone than a 400$ headphone.

Logitech UE 6000, Audio-Technica M50, Focal Spirit One, Parrot Zik are more comfortable and sound on-par with these (or better).

AKG K550, Bose QuietComfort 15, Skullcandy Aviator sound better.
JBL Synchros S700 sound much better.
Denon D5000 sound much, much better.

The passive noise isolation is pretty good:
- better than Logitech UE 6000, Skullcandy Aviator, Denon D5000
- on par with Audio-Technica ATH-M50, JBL Synchros S700
- not as good as AKG K550, Focal Spirit One
- not nearly as good as Bose QuietComfort 15, Parrot Zik

These headphones are special, so definitely try before you buy.

Exceptionally Well Designed and Manufactured Over-the-ear Headphones 30 Aug 2014
By Dr. Bojan Tunguz - Published on Amazon.com
I’ve used and tested several pairs of over-the-ear headphones, and these are easily the best such headphones I’ve tried. They are well built, comfortable, and produce an amazing sound. They are no-nonsense headphones without any high-tech frills or bells and whistles, designed for one purpose only – listening to music and other high-quality audio content.

**** Design and Build ****

The first thing you’ll notice about these headphones is their size. They are larger than most such headphones that I’ve come across, including some bulky gaming headphones that I have recently used. Despite their size, the headphones are surprisingly light. Unfortunately they cannot be folded, so they are not ideally suited for travel. The headphones feel very well made and they look and feel very durable. I’ve had them only for a very short period of time, but I expect them to last for many years.

**** Comfort and Fit ****

These headphones fit better than any over-the-ear headphones that I’ve ever tested. The ear cups are covered with really gentle, soft faux leather. The inside of the ear cups is made out of memory foam, which ensures very soft and individualized fit. The headphones will easily fit on a head of almost any size – I’ve been using them without any discomfort, and I had even put them on the head of my toddler son. (They didn’t stay there for long though.) Even though the headphones were comfortable to wear for an extended period of time, my ears did eventually get too hot. This is not something specific to these headphones, but rather a very typical experience I’ve head with all over-ther-ear headphones.

**** Sound Quality ****

I am a big fan of classical music, and high fidelity headphones like these are ideally suited for someone like me who like the subtle nuances and personal touch of a good classical performance. I used these Velodyne headphones to listen to numerous classical stations on Pandora and iTunes Radio, and the experience was richly rewarding. From deep richness of sound of Yo-Yo Ma’s cello, through subtle idiosyncrasies of Alfred Brendel’s interpretation of Beethoven’s sonatas, to whimsical orchestral playfulness of the Peer Gynt Suite, I was transported to the full richness of musical experience.

I’ve also used these headphones to listen to the other genres of music that I enjoy: pop, rock, techno, and alternative. The experience in each case was truly phenomenal. These headphones are really designed with the audiophile in mind, and they perform better than any similar headphones that I had tried.

These headphones also double as monitoring headphones for studio use. They come with a separate cable that can be used with the studio equipment. I am neither a recording artist nor have I ever been involved in serious audio recording projects, so I cannot really judge how good these headphones are for these purposes. The closest I got was the audio recording for a recent online video that I made. I needed to record some speech for the voice-overs featuring in that video, and for that purpose I had used these headphones for the sound checking purposes together with the high-end USB mic. The headphones were great for this purpose, and I greatly appreciated being able to hear the recorded voice very clearly and without the ambient distortions. I think it really added a lot to the overall quality of the video that I made.

**** Noise Cancellation ****

These headphones don’t have any special noise canceling technology, but rather rely on the “passive” noise canceling – i.e. the physical insulation of the ear cups – in order to diminish the surrounding sounds. Unfortunately, this might be one of the weakest features of these headphones, I did not experience nearly enough sound insulation as I would have liked. I was still able to hear people talking at the nearby table while sitting at Starbucks. Pushing the volume up helped though, and this is not one of the more crucial issues for me. I intend to primarily use these headphones at home, with very little surrounding noise.

**** Conclusion ****

If you are looking for a pair of straightforward good over-the-ear headphones that are designed with a discerning music lover in mid, then you will not go wrong by getting this Velodyne product, especially at the price that they sell for. They are definitely on par, or even exceed in quality, many of their more famous competitors. They have now become my favorite headphones for the times when I just want to enjoy good music. I highly recommend them.

Very nice headphones.... 27 July 2014
By Dr. Oceanfront - Published on Amazon.com
If you have Apple products, and you love music, these are the studio headphones you want!
First of all, they match the gorgeous brushed aluminum in all of our Apple products, so this piece looks great, even just sitting on my desk.

These are one of the coolest headsets I have ever seen. They have a subtle brown leather on the rim over your head, and on the ear pieces. The brown leather, matched with the brushed aluminum, gives you a very sophisticated, and extremely expensive looking, set of headphones. I am going to have to hides these, as I know when my kids come over, these are going to get hijacked!

The padding on the ears, really makes this an extremely easy to wear, comfortable set of phones. Due to the leather, I am even getting nice noise cancellation.

The sound is produced through a 50mm driver, and has low-distortion bass reproduction.
For me personally, I could live with less bass, but this unit has enough for two pairs!
I listened to a to of my Classic rock collection, and it sounded great. I listened also to a lot of my favorite jazz, and it the music was very full.
I never had the opportunity to hit full volume, because I want to keep my hearing intact. But even at the highest levels I listened to, I never heard any distortion.

The unit also comes with a 4' standard and 4' Apple compatible, tangle-resistant, fabric, braided cloth cables, with dual 3.5mm gold connectors. A 1/4" plug adapter is also included for convenience.

The controls that work the IPhone, does everything....even uses SIRI, besides the obvious, phone controls, volume, etc.
The unit comes with a large fabric pouch.
Since the specifications do not seem to be printed on Amazon, I will add them here.

Specifications:
- Driver size: 50mm
- Frequency response: 10 Hz - 20kHz
- Sensitivity: 96 dB/1 kHz/ 1 mW
Impedance: 24 ohms
Power handling: 100 mW
Transducer type: Dynamic
Weight: 10.6 oz., without cable
I really wanted to like these headphones 28 Aug 2014

I really wanted to like these headphones. They appear stylish and we Velodyne is known for its bass modules. However that said the headphone is not up to par. The aluminum is cheap and not welded on the inside where the pads and upper ear cup form. Also when sliding the size adjustor it opens up the corners which are very sharp. That means four sharp corners on each side. They should have been curved off. I do like the headband and ear cup made of stitched leather. Now to the sound. Yes they are bass heavy. But the upper registers are muted. Not because of the bass because thats how these things are designed. Very bad idea. I love bass but I do enjoy listening to the other arrangements of instruments and voices as well. These fall woefully short. I get way better sound out of my ATH M50's which are now about $ 105 as of the time of this review. They look nice but poorly designed all around. I like this idea but it needs serious work to be taken seriously. Very disappointed.

Classic elegance, superb sound 23 July 2014

The album was a good test because of the diversity of the music and instruments. I've listened to a lot of rock and some classical since and have been equally happy with the sound.

There is a lot of power behind these headphones. I tried to turn the volume all the way up on my Kindle and iPad to see if the sound would distort but it was way too loud long before I got to max. (Holding them far from my ears I didn't hear any distortion.)

Two sets of cords are included, both fabric covered which I like because they don't tangle easily and they feel substantial. They are about 4 feet long. One has the inline mic and Apple controls for the iPhone to answer, make calls and control the volume. It also works with Siri. There is a 1/4 inch adaptor for larger headphone jacks as well as the 3.5mm. They came with a brown fabric carrying pouch with the Velodyne logo that's roomy enough for everything.

I was provided with a sample of these headphones for a fair and honest review.
