Celia Brooks Brown was born in Colorado, USA, and moved to Britain in 1989 to seek a career in the theatre. She discovered a passion for cooking while working as a life model for the artist Christiane Kubrick, wife of film director Stanley Kubrick, eventually becoming the resident cook in the Kubrick household. It was then that she decided to transfer her love of entertainment and performance into a career in food. She now runs a successful vegetarian catering company, with celebrity clients including Stella McCartney. As well as writing for magazines such as BBC Good Food Magazine, she makes regular television appearances on the UK Food channel and gives live demonstrations at the world famous Books for Cooks Cookery School. Her book New Vegetarian was hailed as "a gem" by BBC Good Food Magazine, and is a success worldwide. Jan Baldwin is one of Britain's leading food and interiors photographers. Her other books include Party! Food, The African Kitchen, and Tapas.

Since being given Vegetarian Party Food as a gift last year I have cooked many of the recipes on various occasions and they have all come out brilliantly and impressed my guests.
The organisation of the book into chapters relating to different types of entertaining including finger food, dinner party ideas, BBQs, picnics and Bonfires is different and helpful when you are planning to entertain. As a vegetarian I have skipped the chapter on fish. I have found the recipes all easy to follow and the results have been consistently good. Asparagus in frame - is a simple elegant tart that's great for lunches, the sesame dip is a winner every time. It's a great book to dip into to get inspiration when entertaining - and meat eaters are as impressed with the results as vegetarians in my experience.

I have several recipe books, but it is always this one that I turn to when I want to make something that looks impressive, tastes great but is easy to make. The directions are clear and straight-forward to follow. I would certainly recommend this book.

I was very disappointed to find that this book has a section on fish and seafood. It is not vegetarian.
