Though not mainly a source of gardener's tips, the book offers simple instructions to the grower, as well as fodder for anyone curious to know more about the first European sighting of potatoes (1537) or the multitudes of possible potatoes ("Duke of York"; "Epicure"; "Mona Lisa").



About the Author

Roger Phillips is an award-winning photographer with a reputation spanning thirty years. He has consistently pioneered the use of colour photography for the reliable identification of natural history subjects, and has wrtten more than 20 books dedicated to this purpose.

This book has loads of information on the history and description of hundreds (over 650) vegetables and their varieties. The photographs are superb. The book does not concentrate on cultivation however and does not include cereals.
