From the Author
Learn proven ways to grow vegetables in Florida.Florida's unique soils and climate present special problems for vegetable gardeners. During my 36 years as state vegetable specialist, I have learned how researchers and experienced gardeners have coped. Through colorful illustrations and photos, I hope to share the wisdom of academia inter-woven with the sage advice of such old-time gardeners as Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, renowned more for her portrayals of how early Florida pioneers, called "Crackers", survived by saving their corn and crops from yearling deer. Being of cracker heritage myself, I feel a kindred spirit with this famous authoress who gave us The Yearling and Cross Creek, and hope that my long tenure helping gardeners and volunteering in her old garden plot combine now to give your garden that extra boost for which it cries out as plainly as a yearling's bleat.
