This book is written by a probably excellent producer, but not a very good author. Douglas Spotted Eagle displays in-depth knowledge of the area, but fails to present this in a structured manner. Frustrating to read, a typical first-book-on-a-newly-launched-software-package - launched way to early in my opinion.
The included CD is a laugh, the book refers several times to objects no available on the included CD and a couple of the excercises are so poorly described they are of no value. (A typical example of this is the star field example p. 271. Nothing works after following the instruction 100% and the authors final file, positerock.veg, is not on the CD...) The result is simple, after a while you don't bother to try the excercises described in the book. Indeed, after a while you probably do as I did, put down the book and start to explore Vegas by yourself - maybe using the book as reference, since the book does have a couple of good tips from an experienced producer and a vegas user.
There are two problems with this book: Firstly the english is poor making some of the decriptions difficult to follow and to read.Secondly its really not all that clear what the book is trying to achieve. Is it for beginners experts or who, is for video or audio ? Vegas is the best NLE on the market and is crying out for book that really shows you how to make the best of this excellent and slightly unconventional tool.
