"VegNews," September/October 2011
"Isa. Terry. Pie. Those three words are pretty much all you need to know..."Vegan Pie in the Sky" is a veritable smorgasbord of dished desserts...One of the most highly anticipated vegan-baking tomes since "Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World." Or "Vegan Cookies Invade Your Cookie Ja"r.""Kirkus Reviews," 10/15/11
"The icons of hip vegan cuisine tackle the heavyweight champ of American dessert: pie...Bursting with an 'anyone-can-do-this' approach and a defiant 'non-vegans-won't-be-able-to-tell-the-difference' attitude, they provide dozens of recipes for classic fruit pies, cobblers, crisps and cheesecakes. Vegan cooks can look forward to whipping up a pear and cranberry galette that will even have their carnivorous relatives scarfing down a second slice at the next family gathering...More than just a niche guide, this mouthwatering collection of desserts will satisfy even the most reluctant reader." Product Description

From the reigning queens of vegan baking, this is a cookbook that elevates the latest dessert trend - pies and tarts - to a whole new level of delicious. With "Vegan Pie in the Sky", Isa Chandra Moskowitz and Terry Hope Romero continue their vegan world domination mission and elevate pie and pastry to delicious new heights. In this mouthwatering cookbook, you'll find 75+ recipes for pies, tarts, crumbles, crisps, cobblers, betties, and more. And if you don't know what pandowdy is, well, now you will! Recipes range from the old classics, like Mom's Apple Pie, to the new classics, like Salted Pecan Caramel Pie. Fruity, chocolaty, nutty and creamy, "Vegan Pie In The Sky" has it all, dairy-free and egg-free. A chapter on crusts reveals the secret to perfect traditional pastry crust made vegan, as well as nut-based, gluten-free, and chocolate-cookie variations. Luscious ice creams, toppings, and sauces make your pie a showstopper. There are even convenient 'handheld' recipes for anyone in need of a last-minute dessert, treats to hand out at a party, or pie on - the go. With colour photos and the authors' irreverent commentary throughout, "Vegan Pie in the Sky" is the modern baker's bible for pastry that is out of this world.

After their two previous vegan dessert books - Vegan Cupcakes Take Over The World: 75 Dairy-free Recipes for Cupcakes That Rule and Vegan Cookies Invade Your Cookie Jar I thought 'What will they do next?' and I was really excited when I found Vegan Pie in the sky.

I'm not actually vegan myself, although I try to reduce the amount of animal products I eat and my family and I have several allergies. This book is packed full of homely fruit pies and fantastic chocolate and other more decadent creamy pies that are just delicious. I've always wanted to make pies, but with allergies to egg and dairy it has been a problem! Their guide to pie making is also incredibly useful, and even if you want to add your own random filling, their pie crusts are delicious.

I actually bought this book to make some desserts for christmas - and what a choice! I'm torn between chocolate hazenut truffle pie, 'grasshopper' mint chocolate pie, banoffee pie and so many more! If my waistline gets any worse this christmas, these guys are to blame.

As with their previous dessert books, they are American. However, I like measuring things in cups rather than grams and it doesn't take long to figure out some of the ingredients. And I cannot wait to try and make the American classic pumpkin pie.

5/5 I love this book, and I am slowly but surely working my way through all the vegan pie I can!

All Isa & Terry's books are great. The recipes are all brilliant & there are lots of people who test them before the book is published so they all work! This book is small, well written & has lots of pictures.
So far had Very Berry Chocolate Chip Cobbler, Chocolate Galaxy Banana Cheesecake, Cappuccino Mousse Pie, Maple Pecan Pie & Old Fashioned Chocolate Pudding Pie. All absolutely delicious!
If you are vegan & want to make puddings this is the book for you!
If you are not vegan & want to make puddings this is the book for you!
Seriously I can't recommend it highly enough, I want to make all 75 of the recipes!

who ate all the pies? 27 April 2012

I couldn't wait for this to arrive when it was finally published. I have the other two books in this series - Vegan Cookies Invade Your Cookie Jar and Vegan Cupcakes Take Over The World: 75 Dairy-free Recipes for Cupcakes That Rule - so of course I had to buy this one too. There are a lot of pies in this book and I've eaten most of them now lol. It's easy enough to make vegan pastry, you just have to use vegan marg instead of butter, however to get some of the pie contents just right well that can be more difficult. That's what this book excels in, there is a wide range of various types of pies or pie fillings and they all look delicious. The ones I've made so far have all been delicious and no one could tell they were vegan.
