More About the Author

Tony Bishop-Weston (nee Weston) was raised in a family delicatessen in West London. He was a very lazy vegetarian before finally running out of excuses not to be vegan & writing his first book 'Rainbows and Wellies' published by Findhorn Press in 1994. The cookbook gained notoriety not just because it was the first of it's kind (Gourmet Farmhouse Scottish Fusion Vegan Cooking)but because he appeared naked on the front cover with only a bunch of bananas to protect his modesty.

As he drifted southwards from Lochbroom Nr Ullapool after a stint at the local radio station, via the Lake District, The Vegetarian Society in Manchester and The Vegan Society (then) in Hastings he met Yvonne Bishop from Cranks Vegetarian Restaurants.

Together they wrote healthier, more delicious cookbooks and started a Nutrition consultancy called Foods for Life. Today Tony is executive consultant development plantarian chef trying to find time to finish his next two cookbooks and find a publisher with a similar vision and passion.

He says "I'm passionate about food and finding new ways of creating well loved and new flavours and textures with healthier ingredients. I believe it's both wrong and unnecessary to torture and kill other earthlings just for fun, titillation and entertainment of our taste-buds. Luckily I'm right, where I failed others have followed and there are delicious vegan versions of everything - from vegan haggis to caviar, vegan goat-less cheese to vegan white chocolate and mars bars."

About the Author

Tony Bishop-Weston grew up in his family's delicatessen, so it was no surprise that he ended up in catering. After winning a string of awards for his hotel and a stint as a presenter at a Highland radio station, he helped the UK Vegetarian Society in Manchester and then The Vegan Society in Hastings. Yvonne Bishop-Weston has managed health food stores, ran the pioneering vegetarian catering company, Cranks, and was the vegetarian face of The Food Doctor before setting up her own nutrition consultancy Foods for Life in London.

Don't buy this book if you already own 'The Complete Book of Vegan Cooking: Everything You Need to Know About Going Vegan, from Choosing Ingredients to Advice on Health and Nutrition' by the same authors. The recipes all come from this larger book, the recipes have just been selected for this smaller 'gourmet' publication. I think this should of been made clear by the publisher/retailer - so don't make the same mistake I did! For a review of the recipes please the bigger book.

I bought this together with "The Vegan Kitchen" by the same authors and found the exact same recipes in that. Very disappointed but I suppose I now have a nice vegan recipe book for a friend's gift.
