5.0 out of 5 stars Amazingly easy & beautiful dessert cookbook! Buy it! =) 18 May 2011

Wow- I LOVE this cook book! I first heard about author Hannah Kaminsky on her vegan blog. I initially bought this book for her vegan French Macaron recipe. This isn't the coconut American macaroons, it's the French macaron that is typically made with egg whites. I don't know how she did it, but Hannah perfected the recipe. My French Macarons came out beautifully. I really appreciate Hannah's attention to detail. Her directions are very clear and easy to follow, so even if you are not a pro, if you follow her directions, you will bake like a pro. She even explains the importance of steps that she knows that lazy people (like me) are going to try and skip. =) My advice: when baking- follow the recipe! =)

This book is just beautiful. I love it and it makes a lovely gift. The book is made with really nice paper and each recipe has a full color photo! It almost looks like a high quality coffee table book, it's that well done! Hannah is a great photographer and I appreciate that she put so much time and effort into her baby, this amazing book.

The recipes are all amazing! The book is divded by seasons so you can make a special dessert based on special occasions. This book has it all: cakes, bars, cookies, ice cream, there is something for everyone. I'm excited to try the Stuffed Cider Donuts- they look incredible! I also really appreciate that the recipes are easy, there are no crazy hard to find ingredients or fancy machinery. It's something that anyone can do and vegan or not, will enjoy. Hannah proves that vegan baking can be easy, fun, and more importantly- delicious! I will be using this book for many years to come. Btw- I appreciate the awesome price point! Thank you Hannah!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hannah does it again! 7 May 2011
By C. K. Shell - Published on Amazon.com
I first discovered Hannah Kaminsky by means of her Bittersweet blog; and I immediately pre-ordered her last book, My Sweet Vegan: passionate about dessert without reading a single review. Her blog recipes are just that good! I have always found her recipes to be well written and straightforward and suitable for any cooking ability: novice to pro. My Sweet Vegan was always the family favorite for desserts...until now!

Vegan Desserts is a lovely collection of photographs and recipes that leap far beyond 'creative'. Avocado Creme Pie? Spiced Beet Cake Bites? Sweet Basil Shortbread? Olive Oil Ice Cream? Skeptical? Then read the recipes and savor the photographs and you will be convinced! For the more timid, the book also has the familiar favorites, too, with a lot of updated and clever adaptations.

This is a book every one will love, vegan or not (non-vegans will never believe that desserts this good are actually vegan!) and it is an excellent gift choice, too. The photographs are professional and absolutely drool-inducing. And I love that the book is divided into seasonal favorites and seasonal availability of the main ingredients: Spring, Summer, Autumn & Winter. The book includes an allergy index, tips, substitutions, troubleshooting and a lot of other extras, too. Bonus: another dog treat recipe!

I dove right into this book (my husband has a sweet 'husk', rather than a sweet tooth!): Mexican Chocolate Creme Caramel and Mojito Sugar Cookies for Cinco de Mayo week, Banana Split Cheesecake and S'Mores Pie and baking in the oven right now is the Golden Saffron Pound Cake. Never a fail!

5.0 out of 5 stars Not your ordinary vegan cookbook ... 9 Jun 2011
By Alisa Marie Fleming - Published on Amazon.com
This is a lovely little cookbook. Every single recipe is coupled with a full color photo taken by the author right from her kitchen! It is arranged by season, making recipe selection fun and that much easier. Since I received the cookbook in May, I headed straight to the Spring chapter and narrowed my choices down to a few "must-try" recipes. From there, the decision was easy, since I already had everything on hand for the Coco-nut Macaroons. I turned them into thumbprints and they were amazing. Perfectly tender, just as a macaroon should be, and bursting with sweet flavor.

This is also a great one to add to your collection if you like a little culinary adventure. The flavor pairings that the author uses are amazing and unique - this goes well beyond your ordinary vegan cupcake and cookie book. My tastes are a bit traditional though, so some of the recipes I've marked to try include the more reserved Carrot Cake Ice Cream, Maple-Pecan Layer Cake with Gingerbread Frosting, and Peaches & Crème Breakfast Buns.

A couple of other features that I love about this cookbook are the Troubleshooting section (so many great tips) and the final chapter dedicated to recipes for Components and Accompaniments. Honestly, that is probably the chapter I will refer to most, as it offers some of the basic recipes that I often need, such as Caramel Syrup, French Vanilla Ice Cream, and various types of Cookie Crumbs (made from scratch)

5.0 out of 5 stars Another epic tome of sweet treats 7 Oct 2011
By Amber Shea Crawley - Published on Amazon.com
The über-talented Hannah Kaminsky has come out with another epic tome of sweet treats! This isn't your average vegan baking book. Every single recipe in here has some sort of creative twist on it, from Persimmon Blondies to Chocolate Chestnut Torte to Watermelon Bombe ice cream cake, plus you get to drool over Hannah's gorgeous photography throughout the book. I can't recommend Hannah's new book enough; if you don't have it already, you're missing out on some of the most creative vegan desserts you'll ever see.
