This review is from: Vegan Cooking For Everyone: Over 300 easy vegan recipes that everyone can enjoy (Paperback)
Divided into 4 sections (Soups, snacks and salads; High health main dishes; Classic dishes; Desserts) this book offers a wide variety of both traditional dishes as well as more exotic suggestions from various parts of the world. The meals in here are certainly a feast for the taste-buds, but be warned, they DO take time to prepare! In addition, many of the recipes require unusual ingredients that my corner shop does not stock (e.g. eggplant, pimentos, coconut milk, etc), so I leave this book for the weekend or for special occasions. However, if you do take the time to buy the ingredients and actually prepare the dishes, you will be rewarded with really delicious, healthy vegan meals that you will want to make again and again. Another down side (and the second reason why I give it 4 stars rather than 5) is that the book contains a couple of photographs of the prepared dishes, but for the most part you're left uncertain whether your culinary creation looks as it should. On thw whole though, some very good vegan ideas for those that have the time to try them.

3.0 out of 5 stars Missing Important Items, 20 Mar 2003

This review is from: Vegan Cooking For Everyone: Over 300 easy vegan recipes that everyone can enjoy (Paperback)
I just got this book and have not tried any of the recipes yet so I can't review them. But I spent hours looking at the recipes and there are a few things I've noticed that I think other vegans/cooks need to be alerted to.

First off, the recipes in this book are from her three other books. So if you have those, you don't need this one. I didn't realize that and already had one of her books so a lot of recipes are repeats for me.

My next warning is about what is missing from this book...not a single recipe tells you how much it makes or serves. As one of the books these recipes come from is Vegan Cooking for One, be warned.

Not a single recipe comes with nutritional/calorie information.

And there is no glossary or ingredient notes. This I find most annoying as I found many, many, recipes with "yeast extract" (I know it's not nutritional yeast but don't know what it really is) and "hard vegan cheese" (what flavor? American? Swiss?). These are clearly UK items, which is why I'm so shocked that there isn't a glossary or ingredient note telling those not in the UK what these things are.

So, my review is simply a warning that this book does not contain any new recipes from this author, it may be difficult to use if you're not in the UK, and if nutrition and caloric information is important to you this book will not be helpful.
