3.0 out of 5 stars A new HD beamer 25 Mar 2011
I have been looking for a 1920 x 1080 HD wireless beamer to transmit photos & videos from my computer across a big room to a 50 inch plasma. This gizmo looked neat and affordable. It came the next day and it took quite a bit of time to get the settings optimised, but the support on Veebeam's chat line was excellent. I am now very pleased with the HD quality on the big screen for still photographs. There is a lag time of a couple of seconds between the computer screen and the plasma.
Video is more of a problem unless you have a very powerful processor on your computer and you have to find a compromise between jerkiness and resolution. Saved video works better than streaming from iPlayer, which is barely watchable even at lower resolution, because of the jerkiness of the image. Veebeam anticipate software and hardware updates may improve these problems in the future, but at the moment I can only recommend it for still images

3.0 out of 5 stars A real help - now a bit of a nuisance! 28 Jun 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase
The product is a real help it does what it says however it is a little bit more complicated than the literature makes out, a couple of examples. The movie files that the in built player will play seem to be a bit hit and miss, this all seems dependent on what codecs you have on your machine. Also I dropped one AVI file into the player and it worked, then the next AVI file did not work, so a bit confusing. That said you can play the selected file through say Media Player or VLC and then that will show on your TV.

The other problem I have had is not been able to get the picture to fill my whole TV screen, I have contacted tech support and they have responded promptly.

Web browsing is nice on the big screen.

Now for an update, well I am returning the item, to be honest it is more hassle than it is worth especially if your laptop has an HDMI output, if it has you are better buying a HDMI cable and doing it that way because the performance is much better.

Obviously this new review contradicts some other reviews but in my opinion it is not worth the money. I have a high performance laptop, you know dual core good ram graphics card etc (its brand new) clear line of site from laptop to the TV where the receiver is say 3 metres away, however with all of this the performance is lets say average.

My main gripes are the included player is temperamental at best, it will play one file then not another, I have downloaded all of the recommended codec packs and more yet its still a total pain!

So then you have to play the file with Media Player and just broadcast it across to the TV, problem is then the performance and quality drops as the laptop is working twice as hard.

Then you start asking yourself, why bother? when a 5m HDMI cable costs about £10! Obviously as stated above if you dont have an HDMI output you dont have much choice, but if you do dont bother with this.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very clever 30 Mar 2011
By Niki K
So far so good. It was easy to set up as promised. The range doesn't seem great, but as it's used in the same room as the TV, line of sight, that's not an issue. There is a known issue with Media Player files which means that any videos played in that format have a split about half way up, which is slightly irritating but perfectly watchable. Veebeam know about it and are working on a fix.

There is a delay on it, but again, it doesn't really cause a problem for me as mostly I'm streaming videos from my laptop. I have also watched Youtube content, which is fine.

All in all, a clever and neat little product which sits next to the TV minding its own business until needed. I'd definitely recommend it.
