5.0 out of 5 stars Transported to a different world 16 Nov 2004
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
Fantastic. If you like (dont know what to call it) electro, chill out pingy qwerky music that both relaxes you but keeps you humming and laert at the same time this is for you. My favourite of the album is definatly Tokyo Gliterati. For each track your taken away to somewhere special. Its been in my car for months now, and still will be. Buy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Future Sound of York 4 Oct 2004
Format:Audio CD
Iwari founder Martin Wheeler's first full-length release for prestigious Glasgow label Soma transports the listener to a rain-soaked neon Tokyo cityscape, where giant Manga cartoons are projected onto towering skyscrapers and Zen monks meditate to the sound of Vangelis. The York-based laptop wizard brings a warm humanity to the often all-too-cold genre of electro, while showing his lesser-known funky side on dancefloor-fillers such as Funk & Droid. Highly recommended.

By russell clarke TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
Format:Audio CD
Seduced by the all glowing reviews on the Amazon web-site I decided to give The Vector Lovers album a try. Having listened to it several times I am now convinced that you really don't need a full albums worth of Vector Lovers in order to appreciate their chilly implacable beauty . Calmly and randomly pick any three tracks off this album and you will now have all you need in order to fully immerse yourself in all they have to offer. Which is calculating rhythms, springy synths, whooshing atmospherics and numerous vocoded vocals. It's all gloriously functional but then so is my fridge/freezer and I wouldn't spend an hour listening to that humming in the corner of the kitchen.
However I would be derelict in my duty as an Amazon reviewer if I failed to point you to the tracks that I believe would bring you the most pleasure out of the Vector Lovers listening experience. Opening track "Girl Robot" has a syncopated percussive backing with unfathomable treated vocals but has a lovely dappled middle eight of twinkling notes and slowly percolating keyboard. "Tokyo Glitterati" evolves with crystal shards of sound, lambent keyboards coursing in the background and a slightly staccato arrangement that belies the ultra smooth instrumentation. "Electrorobotic Disco" meanwhile is a supremely arranged fusion of vocoded vocals and a glistening cotemporary melody.
The other tracks are all variations on these themes. "Funk and Droid" is .....err a little funkier." Yamanote Sundown" sounds a little Japanese.

5.0 out of 5 stars best cd I've heard all year 10 Oct 2004
By Zack AR - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
I don't usually write reviews, but since this has been constantly played on my CD player, I had to write this. Where do I start. The opening track is stunning. Every mood seems to be on this 1 CD which flows seamlessly from track to track. You just leave it running. You don't need to skip any tracks. You must buy this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Electro for Emotional Droids 19 Jan 2005
By Vision Impossible - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
This first full length releas by Vector Lovers has a stark, shimmering crystalline beauty that resonates emotion. the beats & melodies are superb and in short it is the best Electro CD that I have purchased this side of the Twentieth Century! I was fortunate enough to purchase the initial release from IWARI.COM (home of Vector Lovers) which differs slightly from the SOMA release and in my opinion has more 'introspective' feel with more emotive tracks at the beginng that have been replaced with Soma's more dancefloor friendly choice.

If you have any interest in Electro whatsoever this is an ESSENTIAL purchase - I will never tire of it. Emotional Android music - perfect!

5.0 out of 5 stars Remarkable... a great find 24 Feb 2006
By Marc Gustafson - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
I was not familiar with either Vector Lovers or the Soma label before I was introduced to this CD by a friend. I do truly enjoy emotional electronica that has a cinematic sweep to it, especially artist albums from Bola and the Black Dog. I was amazed at how good this is... rarely can you find electro to be this touching. I guess I was expecting another series of bland acid-house riffs based on the cover art, and I was caught totally off guard. Don't pass this one up if you find it!

5.0 out of 5 stars As Good as Kraftwerk 5 Nov 2008
By Paul Mcloughlin - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Believe me the title of this review is not something I would say lightly, but listening to this album I can't help but feel this way. Like Kraftwerk , Vector Lovers use sounds to create feelings, feelings of love, loss, longing, joy, aching despair, beauty, and the indefinable feeling that machines will never control our lives or fully prevent the beautiful interaction between humans that makes life worth living. To do this using machines and not words is truly astounding and may seem too good to be true. But buy this album and just one hit of the incredible "Tokyo Glitterati" will convince you. You, like me, will listen to that track over and over again, but there are many other gems like it on this wonderful album. There is no doubt in my mind that if you have a love for the pulsing beauty of the best electronic music then you MUST buy this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow! I love robot voices 15 Jan 2007
By L. Olson - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
I don't know what I would lump this music with... I love Aphex Twin, Plaid, Daft Punk, Four-tet, Boards of Canada, and Techno. This is like throwing all of that in a blender, and it tastes good. I have not even made it through the whole CD and I am excited enough write a review at 4:00 am. This is a rare find, I bought it on iTunes because after hearing the samples, I just could not wait to get the CD. Not a lot of vocals, Robot voices, Funky, Ambient, Fun. I Love this CD.
