When this was delivered, I was really surprised at how light the box was - I knew it was lightweight, but I could pick it up with one hand. It took less than two minutes from opening the box to having the Vax up and running. It looks very nice too (a positive when you don't have the space to store it in a cupboard).
The second positive for this model, was the fact that the handle was adjustable. I'm quite tall and have had difficulty in the past, having to stoop to use my vacuum cleaner (not the ideal cleaning position). The only drawback with this is that the handle can feel a little wobbly and flimsy (although I'd rather tolerate this than a static handle). It's very easy to alter the height.
Having had a Dyson in the past, I didn't expect the smaller, lighter Vax to even compete in turns of suction. I couldn't have been more wrong. When I switched the machine on, I felt the suction kick in. The machine even handled my textured rug (which is favoured as a resting place by my dogs). Due to the powerful suction, I actually found it harder work using the Vax, but got far better results than with my Dyson. It even seemed to clean the edges and corners of the rooms more efficiently. I think this may be my husband's new toy, as he enjoyed using it and seeing the results!
My one gripe would have been the stair cleaning - the tools are excellent, but the hose is not long enough to cover the staircase - however, I subsequently discovered that you can purchase a hose extension. You may also need to empty the cylinder more, due to the smaller size and the fact it sucks up so much!
This is an excellent product for people with pets (with the added bonus that the noise of the motor doesn't scare my dog, like my old vacuum).

Wow, amazingly powerful. Picks up all kinds of dirt you didn't even know was lurking in your carpets...
Had been making do with a cheap cylinder vac for last few years and thought it was time to upgrade - now wondering why I waited so long!
Bad points? Well, it's not great for stairs but then find me an upright that is.
Good points - very light but still very powerful. Nice and compact (as vacs go - certainly more agile and nimble than all of the other hulking great beasts I looked at in the electrical stores). And you can't knock a 6 year guarantee.

We bought this as my mother is getting on a bit to lug a full sized vacuum up the stairs now. It is light, easy to set up and seems robust enough for the usual knocks, but I don't think it would stand up to some of the thumps I gave to our aged Dyson DC01. It's easy enough to maneuver and the head is very flat so will go under quite low furniture. The only niggle I have with it is the dust container. You're supposed to take the container out, press a button which opens a flap at the bottom and all the dust is supposed to fall out. The problem is that as it's such a small vac and has such a good suction, the container fills up very quickly which invariably means dust gets stuck between the sides and the bit in the center which produces the cyclone effect. The only recourse is to take the cyclone section off the top. Fortunately this isn't difficult at all, but until I re read the manual I was cursing it as I tried to get the fluff out from the bottom using a knitting needle.
