The Vax 6131T is a powerful, bagged vacuum cleaner with a large 10-litre dust capacity, so you can do more cleaning before you need to empty it. And as the dirt is hygienically captured in the bag, there's less mess when you do empty it, so it's a good choice if you're sensitive to dust. Its robust, tub design with five castor wheels make it very stable and easy to manoeuvre around your home. There's a selection of cleaning tools supplied with the machine that make it easy to reach right into tight crevices, and to clean your staircases, furniture and upholstery. Fibreflow cleaning technology
Once you've dry vacuumed your rooms, it's quick and easy to set up the 6131T for washing. Simply remove the dust bag and filter, fill up the solution tank with warm water and the recommended amount of carpet cleaning solution, then slot it into place inside the canister. Secure the lid in place and connect up the solution tube. Finally, attach the Fibreflow wash tool and you're ready to go.
The Fibreflow wash tool cleans deep into the fibres and the cleaning solution breaks down embedded dirt and stains. The Vax 6131 looks a little old fashioned, but proves that the best designs are sometime the simplest!!
One quick word of advice, don't lose the instructions to this cleaner as there are various bits and bobs that go here and there that will need later referral to the instruction book.
Following the instructions the Vax is quick and easy to set up for both dry cleaning and wet cleaning, the cleaner is supplied with 3 very large dust bags(10lrt) used for dry vacuuming that should last a fair while before replacing, unfortunately these bags cannot be reused but are cheap to buy VAX 6140 6131 6130 6120 Vacuum DUST BAG x 10 Pack (152).
The Vax is a very powerful vacuum, so much so that the dry cleaner head was very hard to push around our carpet without opening the small gate on the flexible pipe to release some of the suction, it did a very good job of our carpets with just a dry vacuum and looking inside the dust bag, picked up lots of dust and dirt that our 'other' vac did not.
I set about swapping from dry clean to wet clean, again following the instructions and using the supplied cleaner fluid, then started cleaning our living room carpet, I was amazed at how much muck came out of the carpet, it was cleaned with a hired cleaner around a year ago so did not expect too much dirt to come out!! the carpet looks like new again. The Vax cuts through the dirt, and left the carpet fairly dry, but we left the room for a couple of hours before walking on the carpet which was still a little damp.
The tools supplied with the Vax look fairly sturdy, they are plastic(which is the norm) with two metal extension pipes from the flex pipe to the cleaner heads, this is a slight problem as I kept getting quite nasty static shocks from the cleaner when touching the plastic parts whilst using!! The cleaner is fairly quiet compared to other vacs I have used, it's 1300 watt motor is nicely balanced and does not get overly hot in used and being only 1300watt is energy saving compared to vacs with larger motors, there's plenty of cable with the cleaner, on on/off switch and pump switch are push on/off types that function well and are sealed.
I do have a few criticisms with this cleaner, the first one being the plastic clips between the motor and the dirt cannister, they look very fragile and with time could snap. The other being the flexible pipe could be a little longer, specially when cleaning stairs also the castors on the Vax are not removable, and the static discharge problem. The Vax can be a little cumbersome to drag around, so using as an 'everyday' cleaner could be a problem, unlike an upright cleaner, however it is fairly lightweight for a cleaner of this size.
Supplied with the Vax are, standard dry cleaning head with carpet/lino setting, crevice tool, small cleaning brush, wet cleaning head, upholstery cleaning attachment, flexible hose, 2 metal hose extensions, cleaner fluid delivery pipe, 1ltr Vax cleaner fluid, 3 dust bags, instructions.
Overall this Vax is a good buy and comes with a 2 year guarantee, it beats hiring cleaning equipment that is old and temperamental and will pay for itself after a couple of uses, just make sure you have some good rubber soles on your shoes and some rubber gloves on!!

The Vax 6131T 3-in-1 MultiVax has two main uses as far as I am concerned. As a vacuum cleaner it is very effective with a very powerful suction. It moves easily over laminated flooring and carpeting and I guarantee you won't believe how much dirt it picks up - but so does any good vacuum cleaner! So let's get to the nitty-gritty!
Switching the Vax to a carpet cleaner is simple. Follow the instructions and you're soon ready to give new life into the carpeting and furnishings! You have to set a suitable period of time aside and make sure the area you are going to clean is free from furniture, etc. Picture the area you want to clean, maybe a metre square and work on that area, working back and forth. The amount of grey debris which is drawn out is unbelievable and wait until you empty the container, you won't believe how much dirt has been extracted. The Vax really gets down to the root of the pile and shifts the dirt out bringing the carpet up as good as new. You have to work on the carpet by pacing yourself and you'll appreciate the reward at the end. I also used the Vax on my twin sofas and was very impressed on how they were freshened up - however, I had to wait for them to dry before I could use them again.
If you have a spill on the carpet then I wouldn't personally suggest setting up the Vax for that cleaning but when you have more time, work on the carpet and any trace of the spill should soon disappear. There are many cleaning liquids on the market to clear up incidental spills.
In some respects, the Vax can appear to be cumbersome but any hired carpet cleaner would be the same. From this point of view, storage of the Vax can be a problem especially if it is not used as a vacuum cleaner. These are just little niggly points I wanted to make to be fair. For me, I already have an excellent vacuum cleaner, so the Vax goes back in its box and is stored in my airing cupboard. Out of the way, but not forgotten as it will be a Godsend at spring and autumn time when I freshen up all the carpets in my property.
Cost? Well, thanks to Amazon, it is EXCELLENT value and so I would recommend the Vax to everyone who has carpeting!

You don't realise how dirty your carpets are til you clean them..!
Very impressed with this Vax 3-in-1 cleaner - great suction when dry vacuuming, picks up so much from carpeting, and easy to manouver about with the wheels etc.
It's simple to change to the carpet washing mode, and then this cleaner really comes into its own - the amount of grey muck it brings out of the pile is incredible, and as you're working it, you can really see the difference between the area you've done and the uncleaned carpeting. The suction power is good in this mode too, leaving the carper much dryer than anytime we've used a hire cleaner.
This is a great product - with 2-year guarantee - and can't be beaten at Amazon's price - very impressed with it.
