VAX V-122 FLOORMATE, 4 July 2008
This review is from: Vax Floormate V-122 Freedom Hard Floor Washer for Spotless Floors (Kitchen & Home)
TO SUM UP THIS CLEANER I WOULD SAY IT IS GOOD FOR SMALLER HOMES NOT LARGE HOMES AS THE BATTERY LIFE IS NOT LONG AND IT TAKES AROUND 14 HOURS TO RECHARGE. I FOUND IT REALLY GOOD ON MY WOODEN FLOOR, I COULD NOT BELIEVE THE AMOUNT OF DIRT THAT CAME OF A FLOOR THAT I THOUGHT WAS CLEAN. BUT I MUST ALSO POINT OUT IT WOULD ONLY DO 1 LARGE ROOM AT A TIME AND THAT IT TAKES TWICE AS LONG AS A CONVENTIONAL MOP. IF YOUVE GOT A SMALL AREA TO CLEAN AND CANNOT MANAGE A CONVENTIONAL MOP I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND. BUT IF YOUVE GO A BIG AREA TO CLEAN YOU WILL NEED TO INVEST IN A BETTER QUALITY CLEANER.

Good, but it has limitations, 8 Jun 2010
This review is from: Vax Floormate V-122 Freedom Hard Floor Washer for Spotless Floors (Kitchen & Home)
This Vax Floormate works very well but I would only recommend it if you only have small areas of floor to clean as it has a small capacity and as it is rechargeable, it will only clean a certain amount until it needs recharging. It should be recharged for at least 16 hours before using it for the first time and after that, Vax recommend you leave it plugged in all the time so it is always ready for use. It comes with a storage tray that it stands on to protect the brushes and squeegee and the handle folds down so it will store in a smaller space.
To use the Floormate you simply fill the top container with hot water and floor cleaning solution. A small bottle of solution is included, but you can use most hard floor cleaners as long as you dilute it correctly. You only need a tiny amount as the Vax only holds around 500ml of water. To clean the floor you turn the switch to scrub and dispense the solution onto the floor while moving the cleaner back and forth. The rotating brush agitates the solution to remove the dirt and then you switch to suction mode to remove the dirty water from the floor. The dirty water is collected in the lower tank and a float valve cuts off the suction when the tank is full.
I had to refill and empty the Floormate three times for my kitchen floor but my bathroom only needed one tank full. The battery had plenty of power left after cleaning my kitchen and bathroom, with enough charge left to clean my sun room floor.
I still think that this cleaner is best for smaller homes but what it does, it does well. Don't expect it to clean really filthy floors, but if you like to keep a clean home and wash your floors a couple of times a week, the Floormate Freedom will be ideal. I would recommend the mains powered Vax V 120 Floormate if you have larger areas to clean.
Why waste your money on this when a mop and bucket will do the job? Well, with a mop and bucket, after you've cleaned the first section of floor, you are putting dirty water back on your floor every time you dip the mop in the bucket. By the time you've reached the end, your water will be filthy and your floor may look cleaner, but a dirty residue will always be left. The great thing about the Floormate and other similar hard floor cleaners, is they only put clean water onto your floor and the dirty water is suctioned up into a separate tank.
If you can get this product for under £40 then it's a bargain. I wouldn't pay the £100 I've seen it for in the past, especially as the Vax V 120 floormate can be picked up for around that price.

Fair performance but failed after four months., 3 July 2009
This review is from: Vax Floormate V-122 Freedom Hard Floor Washer for Spotless Floors (Kitchen & Home)
Did a fair to good job of cleaning a tiled floor kitchen area, but quite slow, especially on soiled areas, unforunately after four months the plug in charger unit failed and Amazon havent proved helpful in sending a replacement, so would not advise buying this machine, pity really because it did have some good points
