If you've never seen Robert Vavra's work before, but share his romaticised, emotional and luminous vision of them, this book will be a delight for you. Arranged into chronological chapters tracing the major equestrian works of Vavra's prolific career, this book highlights some of the most beautiful and dramatic of his past images. It provides a perfect collection for someone new to Vavra's work.
However, long-time fans of Vavra be aware: new images in this book are few and far between although some images are shown in a much larger size for the first time (as this is a HUGE book in format).
Long time fans would perhaps be better off spending their money on obtaining an older out of print title than this new retrospective of his career.
Finally, both copies my bookshop had in store were sadly let down slightly by the print quality - tacky ink had stuck together on a few pages leaving rips when pages were opened for the first time - a real shame for such a beautiful book - and several pages weren't fully sliced apart leading to a delicate process of trying to separate them yourself.
However, that said, if you're an artist or just someone who appreciates the beauty of horses, this book may well be a real treat for you.

Robert Vavra's equine photography is almost legend among horse enthusiasts. Each of his books is an experience, featuring incredible full page or double paged photos of beautiful horses and this one is no exception. It is an enormous book measuring nearly 14 by 14 inches and weighing almost five pounds.
In the introduction, Robert seems to indicate this book will be his last--a sad thing for his many fans who've enjoyed his work over the years.
Potential buyers should know that at least 98% of the book is made up of photos taken from his previous books. The handful of new photos are of Friesians and they are beautiful (of course).
For the average horse lover looking for great horse photography books, I recommend hunting down Vavra's earlier books and buying those before investing in this huge book. Its size and weight make it something of an ordeal to look through.
However, for the die hard Vavra fan, Vavra's Vision is a must have.
