    3.0 out of 5 stars A fancy torch-light 15 Dec 2009
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
Well, what can be said about this `torch'? It is presented in colourful packaging which seems to appeal to children, yet, on the back it states it is not a toy. Strange.

It is designed to be used in the bath-tub (again, presumably for children!) as it is water resistant for up to 3 metres. The unit has settings which allows for a continuous normal light and/or three led colours which can either be continuous or flash. The light itself is well constructed and sturdy. It has a rubber-style grip to prevent it from slipping when wet, which is a bonus.

When submerged under water in a filled tub, the lights seem to make the water `glow', but in all honesty, this seems to be the only function and I was expecting more. The battery replacement is a tad fiddly as you have to unscrew the main unit and lift up the light unit itself with a screw driver (or similar sharp object). But considering it is designed to be immersed in water, this can be understood.

All in all, this is a novelty which seems to be mildly fun for the kids at bath-time. Let's just hope the enjoyment factor doesn't ware out!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Fun for Kids (and kids at heart)! 6 Dec 2009
By Cheshire Cat TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE VOICE

So how much fun could a six year old girl have with a rather clever waterproof torch that allows the choice of white, red, green or blue light are a falshing combination of the last three? A lot is the simple answer. Bath time has been transformed (bathroom lights off of course for max effect) and it has already paid a visit to the swimming pool.

Rubberised type casing that also appears robust (dropped a few times on hard tiling) and with a wrist strap to stop it floating away, it has proven to be a winner. You need a small screwdriver or pinted instrument to access the battery compartmentbut it really is simplicity itself to get going quickly and use.

Tweo 'AA' batteries have been in use for several days without sign of dimming (must be the efficiency of the LEDs) and the torch is also now demanded to accompany our daughter as an everyday outside toprch...and bedside 'conforter'.

So, a 5 start 100% recommendation from us and we have actually ordered 3 more as presents for family!

4.0 out of 5 stars Slightly crazy concept, but entertains kids. 27 Feb 2010

Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
My main thought of the function of a torch would be to see in the dark. A pretty standard use for a torch, but some bright spark thought of creating a torch which was not only waterproof....but also has flashing multicolour LEDs, that kids can play with in the bath, pools, or anywhere really.

This is waterproof as it went under a strict test by me in the bath. Still work fine, and no water leakage to my knowlegde.

The funnest thing for me as an adult has to be the flashing coloured LEDs. It can be slightly amusing, and to young kids even more. This is a good way to help get kids into baths, or just to have that bit of extra fun somewhere wet or dark.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ridiculously simply fun 26 Nov 2009
Lets be fair about this - a 'waterproof torch' is just as necessary to the common person as a starting handle for a modern car. The likelihood of needing one would be on the bottom half the scale, though the Varta LED Torch is designed primarily for kids in mind. And it's pretty darned good!

If we take into account the ruggability of this product - a good thick layer of rubber over a strong, ergonomic body, the idea of it being waterproof is already overshadowed by the fact this is kiddy friendly. The buttons are certainly easy to push for the less-stubby (and older) finger, while theirs a little velcro strap and cord on the end to keep it in the hands of its rightful owner.

Being the more inquisitive adult-male, I proceeded to throw it around my living only to find it still works perfectly, which is just as well because the battery compartment isn't the easiest to get into (partly the idea - kids and water don't mix). Four different coloured lights are available and can be shone separately, together or in a sequence similar to common Christmas lights.

As usual, its come up trumps in the most unlikely of areas - my tropical fish tank. I've used it to have wonder through the realms of my underwater fortress at night, much to the delight of my fish (the bigger ones anyway!) and if I liked, the unit would be fine to simply leave in the tank to shine through.

So, it may not be the brightest of all torches on the market, but its certainly one of the more handy than you would think. The fact it is designed with the child in mind works for everyone as, most of the time, we act like big kids anyway!

I have found children love torches this is an ideal first torch. Not only does it have three colours it works under water... I have never seen such a delighted pre- bath ripping off of clothes, to get in and use it!

It also has a wrist strap which seemed to make it special, great little present that won't break the bank

3.0 out of 5 stars Does What It Claims 30 Jun 2010

Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
This is a surprisingly well made toy. Definitely waterproof so if coloured lights in the bath or swimming pool are your thing then this could be the business! Lets face it though, the novelty value of a bath in the dark soon wears off so unless you or your kids are going swimming somewhere at night (a hotel pool perhaps) this is going to have limited staying power. It's not bright enough to use for something like night time snorkling. On the plus side though it's totally waterproof, robust and easy to handle and operate.
