Product Description

Product Description

The Varta Solar Charger is the perfect mobile charging device for the 21st century. Equipped with 6 adaptors for all your mobile devices including many popular mobile phone adaptors and the new standard for future mobile phones micro-USB (see packaging image at top of page for details). Your mp3 player, camera, or any device that you regularly carry around can also be charged.

Why rechargeables? The 3 E’s:

  • Economy--after the 4th charge you start saving money, and since these batteries can be recharged up to 1000 times over the life of a battery, you could save over £350 per battery!
  • Environment--with each battery being able to be charged up to 1,000 times you not only save the impact of 1,000 batteries on the environment, you also save on packaging and reduce your carbon footprint
  • Ease--save time by always having batteries at your finger tips--no last minute dashes to the shop

The charger works in 2 ways, either by harnessing the sun’s energy or by the USB In from a laptop or other device. Inside the charger is 2 high capacity AA batteries, once charged the Solar Charger can either be used to charge your device via its USB Out or if you prefer, you can remove the batteries and put them directly into your device. This flexibility means that you need never run out of charge at again.

The solar charger is fast and flexible, ready when you need it most. It has a 3 year warranty for your piece of mind and its compact size is ideal for the environmentally friendly traveller. Better still, the charger includes 2 x AA Varta Rechargeable batteries.

Rather than damaging the environment and your wallet by using large amounts of batteries each year, make the switch to rechargeable batteries. We recommend this charger with Varta’s range of Power Accu batteries. These batteries have high mAh capacities meaning more time between charging, and many of our range come complete with Ready2Use--meaning you can use the batteries straight out of the pack. A recent Which? Magazine award voted our AA 2700 mAh batteries their “Best Buy”.

Varta is one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of portable batteries and lighting. Delivering flexibility and independence, Varta is committed to developing cutting-edge solutions to support its customers’ on-the-go lifestyles.

It is recommended that Varta Power Accu or Varta Ready2Use batteries are used in this device.

By Jeremy Williams TOP 1000 REVIEWER
I've been looking at some length for a solar charger that could do batteries and mobile phones, and after looking at a good twenty options both on Amazon and elsewhere, I went for this one.

First, the postives: the build quality is good, it's compact and neat, and very simple to use. The included rechargables are ready to use out of the pack, although not quite at full charge. The USB option is a useful alternative for overcast days, meaning you can always have a couple of batteries on trickle charge.

The negatives: I looked at the packaging and checked it was compatible with our phones, but the adaptors don't fit either my Samsung phone or my wife's Blackberry. Without the adaptor, I can't charge the phones either off the solar panels or the USB. Do Samsung and Blackberry have more than one kind of charger fitting, or is the packaging wrong? Either way, that's pretty annoying, and it means I can't comment on the phone charging aspects of the device.

It only charges AA batteries. It doesn't claim to do AAA, but it wouldn't have killed them to add that functionality.

I should also mention the charge time, which isn't included in the blurb here - you're looking at 18 hours charge time with the solar panels, 14 hours through the USB. That's fine for my normal rate of battery use, but it's not fast enough to take on holiday and run my camera. You'll know best if it would work for you.
