Yet another DVD from the Expo '92 shows in Sevilla. This time featuring fusion/jazz giants like John McLaughlin, Larry Coryell, George Benson and flamanco legend Paco de Lucia. Backed by a stellar band led by George Duke and including the talents of Dennis Chambers, Stanley Clarke and Trilok Gurtu.

While these kind of events rarely really take flight, the talent here is too great not to produce some highly interesting moments. Like John Mclaughlin's version of Zawinul's classic "In A Silent Way" or Stanley Clarke's take on "Tutu".

The event is billed as a tribute to the legendary Miles Davis, but there is also some non-Miles tracks. John Mc. plays a fine version of the titletrack from his then forthcoming "Que Allegria"-album, showcasing the drumming magic of Trilok Gurtu. Paco De Lucia plays an excerpt from Rodriguez' "Aranjuez" as well as some of his trademark modernized flamenco, including a breathtaking duet with John, while Larry Coryell gives us his version of Ravel's "Bolero".

Not the best either of this artists have made, but another enjoyable superstar-meeeting with some profound highlights. And of course A+ video -and audioquality.

This is not wall-to-wall Miles music but virtuosos who knew, played alongside and loved the man and his music, so gigging together at a superb venue with fellow legendary greats to honour his memory and display individual worth - everything about this performance is a sheer delight of rare beauty including the setting and highly appreciative though happily not overly-demonstrative audience.
Paco de Lucia seems the natural home-grown Spanish host but so modest and unobtrusive is he that Larry Coryell comes more to the fore in that regard, and all have an absolute blast particularly with the finale.
A 'must buy' for all lovers of great art and especially the many followers of the seminal career that shaped many others, that of the one and only Miles Davis, still jamming with other heroes in heaven - or there just ain't no God at all - so sit back and simply have your breath taken away by such mastery.....and enjoy the memory of a top man.
