Product Description

Only 21 years of age, Ólafur hails from the suburban Icelandic town, Mosfellsbær, just a few kilometres outside Reykjavík. He as immersed himself completely in the world of delicate symphonic compositions in a near weightless orchestral undertaking. Mixing strings and piano with loops, ambiance, electronics and beats, his music fits into the Erased Tapes catalogue like a pieceof a jigsaw puzzle. Debut album 'Eulogy for Evolution' took the listener on ajourney, representing different periods in life, from birth to death. While keeping the classical foundations of his debut album, here Arnalds incorporates crackling electronics and the dead voice of a machine; like vague memories of tradition lost within the digital age we all live in.

the cd does not last very long but every of the 26 minutes is beautiful - the music is quiet and varied at the same time, it never bores. great musician and great instrumental music. highly recommended!

Enjoyable, but lesser than his full-length in a number of ways. 24 Feb. 2009
By Adam D. R. Baker - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Vinyl
Don't get me wrong: the musical work of Olafur Arnalds on the whole tends to make me ridiculously happy in the most blissed out of ways. It soothes and challenges me, both reducing me to tears and pushing me to self-examination and thoughtfulness. With this said, I simply feel, after enjoying this EP, that his previous full-length, 'Eulogy for Evolution', is much better. The songs here, while beautiful, don't seem to have nearly the cohesive drive and pull that 'Eulogy...'s songs had.
Should you have 'Eulogy...' already and find yourself considering the purchase of this EP, please don't hesitate - after all, it's still Olafur Arnalds. Should you never had have experience with Arnalds work beforehand, however, I urge you to purchase 'Eulogy for Evolution' first.

HEAVENLY, GLORIOUS "Static" 4 Feb. 2011
By DAVID HALL - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD Verified Purchase
VARIATIONS OF STATIC by Olafur Analds is a sprinkling of absolute STARDUST by one of the most exciting new artists creating music today. The album is literally a rainbow of musical colors and forces. Piano centered, but containing ambient, vocals ( that are spoken word rather than sung ),strings, cello, that lead the listener into a world of enchantment. This music is beautiful, quiet, ambient, neo-classic, and literally instantly transports me into a state of being that is at once peaceful and energizing; soothing yet quickening. Words don't quite get at the heart of desribing this album. Please do yourself a favor: sample it on Amazon, as I did. Bet you'll download it, as I did. Bet you'll love it as much as I do. If you connect with this album, you'll definitely fall in love with another Mr. Analds album: Found Songs. Most highly recommended.

Beautiful 24 Jun. 2012

Arnald's work is haunting, melodic, and melancholy. There's a prevailing sadness in his sounds that really tugs at the heart strings, but makes it no less beautiful.

Sleep, study, read, relax, but always listen. 9 Sept. 2011
By Nickalaus - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
This album and artist is simply superb. Having found this man through an iTunes podcast, I was immediately attracted by his simple melodies, and uplifting sections. You could very easily right a movie around any of this man's albums, they are that imaginative. Overall buy if you can, but if all else fails, just please listen. Your ears, heart, and soul will thank you.

loved it, felt it was too short though. wonderful mix of classical "chamber music" and a very delicate touch of the electronic.
