Product Description

Vanished is the brilliant new missing persons case in the David Raker series by Tim Weaver.

No life is perfect. Everyone has secrets.

For millions of Londoners, the morning of 17 December is just like any other. But not for Sam Wren. An hour after leaving home, he gets onto a tube train - and never gets off again. No eyewitnesses. No trace of him on security cameras. Six months later, he's still missing.

Out of options and desperate for answers, Sam's wife Julia hires David Raker to track him down. Raker has made a career out of finding the lost. He knows how they think. And, in missing person cases, the only certainty is that everyone has something to hide.

But in this case the secrets go deeper than anyone imagined.

For, as Raker starts to suspect that even the police are lying to him, someone is watching. Someone who knows what happened on the tube that day. And, with Raker in his sights, he'll do anything to keep Sam's secrets to himself . . .

Vanished marks the return of an amazing thriller talent - Tim Weaver, author of Chasing the Dead, and The Dead Tracks. Fans of Mo Hayder's Gone and Michael Marshall Smith's The Straw Men should look this way.

Praise for Tim Weaver:

'Impressive debut . . . Fans of Mo Hayder will be in seventh hell' Guardian

'Perfect plotting, great characterisation, and the kind of payoff that a thriller of this calibre deserves' Bookgeeks

'A taut thriller' Barry Forshaw

Tim Weaver was born in 1977. At eighteen, he left school and started working in magazine journalism, and has since gone on to develop a successful career writing about films, TV, sport, games and technology. He is married with a young daughter, and lives near Bath. Vanished is Tim's third David Raker novel, which follow his highly acclaimed debut Chasing the Dead and its sequel, The Dead Tracks. Tortured by his wife's early death, David Raker is one of the most charismatic, sensitive and unique missing persons investigators in current crime fiction.

5.0 out of 5 stars Compelling, compulsive, captivating... 26 May 2012
By Mrs. V. Bradley TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
'Vanished' had me hooked from page 1 and captured my imagination through to the end. It is a well crafted psychological thriller in which the reader is kept wondering 'who dun it' until the last few pages. It is violent in parts but this simply gives credence to the suspense which builds up as the reader journeys through the story. 'Vanished' poses a number of questions; for instance how can someone taking a routine journey on the Circle Line in London get onto a train and not be seen to get off' and still be missing some months later. How, why and where are the questions which Julia Wren, the missing man's wife, hires David Raker to find the answers to. But did he take on more than he bargained for? The author makes effective use of the London Underground system, and in particular the Circle Line. I was born in London and was a frequent user of the Underground system, and there were many occasions during the story which really made my flesh creep. Atmospheric, creepy, and in parts the stuff of which nightmares are made.

5.0 out of 5 stars Vanished 5 Jun 2012
By A. Lucas TOP 1000 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
What an absolutely brilliant book. I just couldn't put it down once I'd started to read it. The story is so clever and has so many bits woven into it that you just don't expect. I'm a newcomer to Tim Weaver's books - but I will most definitely be reading eerything else I can find of his! I loved the characters in Vanished - I really ended up caring about them (and even feeling sorry for the 'baddies' in a way). There were some horrible bits, which were extremely graphic and disturbing, but they didn't seem gratuitious at all - all quite necessary for the story.

I'd recommend this book to anyone who likes a good murder mystery - it's such a great read. My only little moan was the ending - I didn't want it to turn out like that...... but apart from that, I loved this book.

By It's Only Me TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
Vanished is a decent enough read with plenty of plot twists and well developed characters. There's an almost gothic feel running alongside the modern storyline and it's mostly a winning formula, though quite ordinary and typical of it's genre. In Vanished the police are chasing down a serial killer with a fetish for hair but my main problem is; the whole thing's slightly unbelievable. The police arrive at the scene of crime and there's nothing left but a pile of hair, it doesn't work for me, I found the concept somewhat silly. Despite that; Tim Weaver has managed to produce a relatively slick, nasty and mysterious serial killer who provides enough chills to keep the story ticking over. I did enjoy the vanishing aspect of the plot, someone gets on a train and is never seen again, they just disappear, gone, that's spooky. I've given Vanished 3 stars and not 4 because there are too many coincidences, the plot over-reaches itself and I was somewhat frustrated trying to make all of the pieces fit. Vanished is too padded out, there's often too much going on and a shorter book would have delivered more tension and kept the pages turning.
