smiling like the devil smiles. 11 Feb 2010

I always get excited when I hear Matthew good releases a new album. Ever since I heard his work with "The Matthew Good band" I've been hooked by this wit and intoxicating dark lyrics. "Vancouver" is Mr.Good's fourth solo album and his first since "Hospital Music", his most personal and visceral release. On "Vancouver", Good returns much to the form of "Avalanche" and "White Light Rock and Roll Review" forgoing the slow paced introspection that he had on "Hospital Music" and returning to higher energy songs. After listening through "Vancouver" it's prevalent that Good is still wrestling with the same demons he has been facing ever since he picked up a guitar. What makes Good's music so gripping is that each of his songs seem like a personal struggle, a weight on his soul, but he is just to hard nosed and stubborn to let that weight drag him down. "Vancouver" is a solid album. I wouldn't but it up there with "Avalanche" or "White Light" but it's close. It's always good to see one of music's unsung heroes continue to make terrific and completing albums. On the song "On Nights Like Tonight" Good bellows "I smile like the devil smiles, unseen but proud". He maybe unseen but he continues to pour his soul into his work with fantastic results and should be proud. Matthew Good is still going strong and maybe someday he'll get the recognition he deserves. Until then, his core of dedicated fans will continue to reap the benefits.

Typical!! 16 Jan 2010

I will never understand how absolutely terrible after terrible bands makes it on to the airways in America with the same garbage that everybody and their mother will forget about within one week of their song being off the air, yet the most incredible music you have ever heard is not even a blip on the radar. Vancouver is yet another "typical" Matthew Good album. Typical in the sense that it is amazing. Every song draws a different emotion from you, and the only questioning you have about the album is why more people in America dont know about it. All I really have to say is purchase it and you will love it.

Score another great album from Matt Good 29 Oct 2009
By Yeathatsme - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Matthew Good & (Matthew Good Band) continues to produce great albums through the years and this one is no diffrenet in that respect. Always been a fan, and even though other bands that have been great for years such as U2, release steaming piles of dog crap for their new stuff, this is solid gold.
I won't get into specifics as everyone sees/hears music differntly, but if you like Matthew Good, this is a must add to your collection.
Not quite as dark as Hospital music, but as other people have mentioned, it is still a wonderfully sarcastic and introspective trip through his manic depressive mind.
Great Album, 5 stars all the way.
