Van Veeteren's only unsolved case comes back to haunt him when the daughter of a murdered private detective comes to see him. A brutal wife killer who went into hiding years before has resurfaced under an assumed name, or so it seems, and Van Veeteren has personal reasons for wanting him caught. Always one step ahead of his friends on the police force, Van Veeteren has to face the killer alone in a final twist that surprises even this master detective.

Svalan, katten, rosen, döden / The Swallow, The Cat, The Rose and Death:
Münster comes across the strangled body of a young woman in her home and surprises the murderer who is still on the premises. Though the murderer escapes, a rare book is found at the scene with a dedication by the killer. When another victim is uncovered, Van Veeteren's literary expertise is put to the test as it becomes clear they are dealing with a serial murderer who kills using names taken from 19th century crime novels. Which name will he use for his next victim?

Moreno & tystnaden / Moreno and the Silence:
When a girl is murdered soon after leaving a closed religious community, Moreno faces a difficult investigation as the community closes ranks and refuses to cooperate. When another girl is abducted and her bloody fingernails mailed to the police, tongues begin to loosen. But time is running ...Van Veeteren Collection 2: 3 DVD Set ( Fallet G / Svalan, katten, rosen, döden / Moreno & tystnaden ) ( Case G / The Swallow, The Cat, The Rose and Death / Moreno and the Silence )

4.0 out of 5 stars Second Van Veeteren collection 6 Feb 2013

Format:DVD
The films about Van Veeteren are based on Haakan Nesser's bestseller novels around the fictive North European city of Maardam and follows the retired Chief Inspector Van Veeteren (Sven Wollter) and his two successors Inspectors Munster (Thomas Hanzon) and Moreno (Eva Rexed).

There are three movie length instalments on this DVD starting with Moreno and the silence:
Moreno is working late and talks a call from a terrified woman who is being kidnapped. Moreno tries to calm her down while they trace the call, but unfortunately they are unable to save her in time. The hunt for the kidnapper/killer leads them to a religious community that is far from helpful in the investigation and soon a second victim is found and a third woman is missing and as Moreno is working against time and the silence of the community, she asks her old mentor Van Veeteren to give a helping hand.
Nice to see Moreno as more than just one of the colleagues

The Swallow, The Cat, The Rose and Death
Muster is still on sick leave after the stabbing when he is asked by a priest - who doubles as his poker mate along with Van Veeteren - to visit a woman who lives in an abusive relationship and tell her to get out and what the police can do for her if she chooses to do so. Unfortunately he is late and she's already dead.
Moreno is in charge of the case and asks him to stop by the station as a "witness" but really mostly because she can see that he is bored out of his skull sitting at home. Their boss though is of a different opinion and will not let him help till he gets the all clear from the psychiatrist.
Despite being banned frm the station he continues his own investigation and as there is a rare book as one of the clues, he asks Van Veeteren for assistance.

Case G
Van Veeteren's only unsolved case comes back to haunt him when the daughter of a murdered private detective comes to see him. A brutal wife killer who went into hiding years before has resurfaced under an assumed name, or so it seems, and Van Veeteren has personal reasons for wanting him caught. Another great addition to the Scandi series. This collection is better than the first one as we get to know the characters better and the cases also seem to have more meat on them
The discs have subtitles in Swedish, Danish, Norwegian and Finnish as well as English.

5.0 out of 5 stars Captivating. 11 Feb 2013

Perhaps the best psychological legal thrillers in the world. From the scripts, to the acting, to the direction, each episode is a thrilling masterpiece. Even though I see them with subtitles, I'm glued to the TV and delighted to be there!

1.0 out of 5 stars Avoid! 23 Jan 2010
By Magnus Hammersberg - Published on Amazon.com
Swedish television and theaters utterly drown in this kind of junk. Endless cop shows and movies, based on endless series of cop novels, they were bad to begin with and they just get worse. The makers of these things look down on american movies but keep stealing from them in the most inept ways. They are bad in every single department. Don't even think about it, just say no.
