I've been playing Vampire since it first appeared as 'Masquerade'. This guide does everything you wish the original books did - it pulls together all the key components of creating a character, not just the number crunching but also the 'head space' for each clan and covenant's membership. It has a decent index and is written in a very accessible manner. I recommend it to any player, but especially to new players and to those who can't be bothered spending ages hunting through the original texts for those all-important twists and turns of good roleplaying of V:TR.

I was attracted to this, lets be honest, because it seemed a cheap alternative to the original Vampire the Requiem rulebook. There's frustrating gaps in the information included, and it's not as attractive as a White Wolf publication. However you will find all the rules, information and narrative flavour you need to run a campaign. However if like me you desired to create some fairly powerful antagonists, or want the rules for a variety of situations that are hinted at rather than detailed in this book, you'll probably be turning to the original rule book after all.

In all likelihood I shall loan this out as a player guide, (as soon as my players realise just what they are involved in) and gift it to any friend who expresses a desire to take on the role of storyteller.

This book isn't so much a 'for dummies' book as it is a compendium of Vampire: The Requiem. Even the sample characters are copied from the appendix. There are no hints which dont appear in the WoD or VtR books themselves. The only this book is good for is to have it go give to someone who doenst know hoe to play or as a quick reference. I'm glad I bought it second hand as if I had bought it new I would feel ripped off.

The only new material is the top 10 section. However anyone with sense would realise it themselves what the top 10 crone and dracul rituals are.

If it even had new sample charaters, sample stories or something unique then it might be justifablely bought, however it doesn't. It seems to be designed for those who arne't sure if they want to play vampire or not. However as the price new is close enough to the core game book you may as well buy it instead.
