Product Description

I have yet to find a better combination of the serious and the outright outrageous as the author has managed to capture with this series. -- Jackie Burris

This little novella is a perfect mix of everything a reader loves in an urban fantasy novel but in mini form. -- Naj @ Unputdownable Books

Lian and Figg are still recovering from events that almost destroyed their lives, but when a good friend comes to them with a serious problem, they can't turn him away. Soon, Lian and Figg are neck-deep in local vampire politics and framed for a massacre they had little to do with. On top of that, the local werewolf pack is sniffing around, looking for favors.

You will laugh out loud and you will be turning pages as fast as you can to see what happens next. Fans of Jennifer Estep and Rachel Caine will love this series by Stephany Simmons. -- Kristen @ Seeing Night Reviews

The action comes fast and steady in Vampire Blues. The characters we loved in Voodoo Dues are back and just as quirky as ever. -- Cristina @ Alaskan Book Cafe

Vampire Blues offers not only suspense and wicked thrill, but also an added sexiness that guarantee its readers with a page-turning result. -- Vanessa @ Bornean Bookworm

i'd read the first Lian and figg (vodoo dues ) and wasn't sure about how i felt - the humour was good and spot on for me, i like quircky snarky quips, and i liked the way some chapters were narrated by Lian and some by Figg and yet somehow overall i felt something was lacking, Got book two - what a difference, its shorter but much snappier and driven. it was easier to like the characters - maybe becuase they felt more familiar and i understood more of what drove them, having read the first book. Figg is just superb, i love her - she's a walking disaster in some ways and yet she's the one that pulls together everything by not holding back - loved the stiletto in the vampire queen. she sees beyond stereotypes so whether people are werwwolves, vampires or some other supernatural she just treats them as people first instead of seeing the bias against each other that they often do - there's a rollercoaster of mayhem, murder, jokes and romance. All ends well with plots nicely tied up and figg on top once again.
I'll certainly be up for buying more Lian and Figg adventures

4.0 out of 5 stars A great sequel! 11 Feb 2012
By Liz @ Fictional Candy - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Ok, so while I enjoyed the first book in the series, it really didn't feel like a blockbuster to me. This second story, however, was completely different for me. I really enjoyed reading this story. It was fun and edgy, and it was nice to get to know Lian and Figg a bit more. But I still stand by my original statement that I would love to see these made into full length books. That's not because I think they need to be, but because I am enjoying the storyline.

Vampire Blues takes place not too far after Voodoo Dues. This time around they have issues with vampires. Vampire friends, vampire enemies, and vampire frenemies. Throw in a couple werewolves and other shifters, and you've got yourself one heck of a story.

In my opinion, this story had a much more relaxed feel to it. Lian and Figg had more chemistry, and kicked it up a couple notches in a few spots. I am really digging Lian, and I totally picture him as Zachary Quinto! There are a couple instances where he takes the upper hand in dealing with Figg, who can tend to go a bit off the rails if left to her own devices. I liked seeing that stronger side to him, kind of like the Superman to his Clark Kent act in Voodoo Dues.

And Figg's character is growing a bit too. She's still wild and a bit reckless, but you get to see her care for people and put them before herself.

Just as in Voodoo Dues, there is no shortage of colorful characters. Stephany Simmons definitely has a knack for introducing some humor into the people inhabiting her stories. Carl has returned, and while not as flamboyant, he is still definitely a necromancer to watch out for. We also get to know John, Skip, and Ross. And The Edict, Mr. Edict as Figg says.

All in all, I really liked this book. And I'd definitely say I enjoyed it much more than the first one. I can't wait to see if there is a third, and what kind of situations these people will get into next. If it's one thing I've quickly learned about the Lian and Figg series, expect the unexpected!

5.0 out of 5 stars This series is now on my auto buy list 18 Mar 2012

This series is definitely on my 'auto buy' list. Who can resist a chubby, geeky vampire that wears glasses and has a pocket protector ... and apologizes for showing his fangs when you cut your finger and he smells blood?

Some romance, high enough body count to keep readers interested but just plain fun. I wish I had a dozen more as entertaining to read right now. This series is likely to be addictive.

While "Vampire Blues" is a stand alone story, it would be better to read "Voodoo Dues" first so that you can better understand the character interactions.

Lian and Figg are trying to get back to a normal life. However, one of their friends has become a waiter. The only problem is that Vampires have been dropping in and ordering food they don't eat. Intimidation seems to be the purpose, so he asks Lian to intercede for him with the local coven to see if they will stop. Figg wants to help too, yet somehow her help causes additional trouble.

"Vampire Blues" takes place a few weeks after the end of "Voodoo Dues". Lian and Figg are still trying to figure out if they have a relationship and it is made more difficult when their attention keeps being diverted by covens, packs, and other things that go bump in the night. Luckily Figg likes to carry things that go boom along with wearing her spikey heels. Luckier still Lian has some good contacts in out of the way places.

The pace is fast and furious with people's freedom and lives at stake. You will find action, romance, a hint of mystery and a slew of creatures.

The story is told in first person, alternating between Lian and Figg, luckily in this book the chapters are labeled. Sometimes it feels strange to so quickly change point of view, but overall I love the effect it has on the story.

I am now off to find the omnibus to read the new stories...

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS NOVELLA.

Voodoo Dues (Lian and Figg) Book 1
Voodoo Dues Companion (Lian and Figg) (cut bedroom scene from "Voodoo Dues"
Shotgun Rites (Lian and Figg Collection) Book 1,2,Companion and 2 additional shorts
