But her life becomes more complicated when one of her students is found dead with his body covered in mysterious puncture marks and completely depleted of blood. When two of Rierdon's students are implicated in the boy's death, she immediately gets caught up in the investigation and discovers that the student was killed by a swarm of bats. When other attacks occur and more people are found dead in a similar fashion, evidence leads Rierdon to discover that these are not ordinary bats, but aggressive vampire bats that have mutated due to a tainted water supply. Disappointing! 25 April 2009
By Miss K TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
I purchased this at a bargain price but what a disappointment! I really love anything to do with vampires, werevolves and the supernatural as well as tense predator-terror films like Jaws. I thought maybe this would be a suspensful kind of horror film about a bunch of bats terrorizing a town but there was no suspense at all and very little terrorizing!! It's the kind of straight-to-DVD film that you would expect to see on daytime TV - it's not scary at all. I think the film is primarily aimed at teens - don't expect blood and gore or any suprises either.

Maybe if you are a big fan of Lucy Lawless and miss her from the days of Zena Warrior Princess, you MIGHT enjoy this (she plays a mother and a teacher though). Fans of the new 90210 series may also like to know that Silver (Jessica Stroup) is in this film although Amazon has left her off the cast list.

All in all, not so great - this is just not a horror film in any sense and it's just a real disappointment to watch as it doesn't deliver on anything else (tension, comedy, drama) either. I watched the film all the way through and the slow pace is the same throughout. It was nice seeing Lucy Lawless in a different kind of role but overall as a film: disappointing!

By I. R. Kerr TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:DVD
When the body of a student is found drained of blood and two of her students at Tate University are taken in for questioning a local biology teacher volunteers to examine the corpse and find that the body has been attacked by animals, soon proven to be bats.
Lucy Lawless, reprising her role of Maddy Rierdon from Locusts: Day of Destruction Locusts - Day Of Destruction [DVD] [2005] with her husband, who is also a teacher join forces with a group of students to capture one of the bats using a goat for bait. They discover the bats are a mutant strain and that the mutation has been caused by human intervention which soon leads to the revelation of corruption by town officials.
The blurb on the DVD case says "as the suspense - and body count- continues to mount", they are half right, there's plenty attacks but it is notably lacking in suspense. It's not particularly gory either, the warning on the back says "contains moderate forensic gore", namely a brief autopsy. There are a few good set pieces as the bats attack a local college party and a river boat party thrown by the local high rollers, and a few decent close-up shots of the bats chomping away at their victims.
It's not irredeemably bad, Lawless and Jessica Stroup as Eden are fine, as is Timothy Bottoms as the Mayor but the best acting honours here go to Brett Butler as Shelly.
There are no extras.
