Product Description

Did Mårten Larsson want to be a vamp? Not so much. He wanted it as much as he asked to have a sissy circle over the å in his name. He just woke up dead one day with a piece of paper that said, “Dude, you’re a vampire. Drink some blood. Don’t suntan.” Luckily, another vampire finds Mårten and agrees to teach him how to live (well, not live, exactly) as a vampire. And so Mårten goes to Vamp Camp, where he has to survive without getting staked or baked, learn how to work with fangs and blood lust while spending time with his boyfriend, and employ his wicked wit as he masters the art and science of vampirism.

5.0 out of 5 stars Vamp Camp 2 May 2010

Vamp Camp

Vamp Camp is a new series of writings for Wynn Wagner. He does have one earlier work in the area of gay relationships, but this one is really hot and steamy. The lead character is from Texas and is serving in the Armed Forces during World War I. He's repeatedly accosted in the prison camps and then left to fend for himself as a newly-made Vampire. He becomes involved with a group of others who either are Vampires or who care for them. He shows his Viking background in his ability to track those who harm the ones he loves and cares for in his new life. He is also able to favorably impress the head of the Vampires in Europe with his skills and abilities along with his "true love'. This book is a definite read. Rumor has it there's another volume on t5he way to us.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun read. Lots of sex. 19 Dec 2010

I thought this was an exceptionally fun book to read.

I have become enthralled with vampire fiction, beginning with Bram Stoker's Dracula and continuing through Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles. This was a bit of a fluffy, fun, and gay version - with a fair amount of sex. I think the sex/romance scenes could be more sophisticated, but maybe that is just me.

I have read some of the other comments/reviews. I agree with them in that there could be more character development of the antagonist in this book. However, it reminds me of the Hannibal Lector character in 'Silence of the Lambs.' We didn't get a full view of him -- where he came from and why he was as he was before the pre-quell 'Hannibal Rising' came out.

I see many opportunities to develop these characters through their own story lines in other books. Overall, I say bravo to this fun and quick read!

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun, light reading 4 Dec 2010

The narrator/protagonist is a well thought out character. He's snarky and funny and matter-of-fact. I liked him instantly, and his cereal preoccupied mommy. He carries the story well. The steamy parts (somewhere between half and two thirds of the book) are...quite. The mushy parts are just brimming over with warm fuzzies. This is refreshing to me, to have romance without the standard romance novel formula where the couple has to start off at odds and bicker through most of the book. The happy couple in this story really are happy with each other, and the conflict is between them and the bad guys.

Speaking of bad guys, though, the main antagonist in this story leaves me scratching my head. I kept thinking there would be some explanation for why he did bizarre antisocial things, but then I reached the end of the book without finding one. He seems kinda like a cartoon villain, being evil just for the sake of being evil. And what about his followers? Why are they following him? I haven't the faintest idea.
