Product Description

Review

"This book is a worthy addition to the literature, and anyone who is engaged in educating students regarding values and ethics would likely find it useful. This text is successful at "starting where the student is" when entering into the often charged territory of values. Backett and Maynard have understood clearly that students often need more guidance in examining their own values and assumptions, and how these lead us to very different ways of thinking about ethical dilemmas. It would be a helpful resource in approaching the teaching of values and ethics in social work." (Suzanne Bushfield The Journal of Contemporary Social Services )

A very readable gem 30 Sep 2005
Format:Paperback
I chanced upon this book by accident, it wasn't on the university reading list and I think it should be added as an introductory text, if a lively, interesting book written in plain english is what you want and enjoy than you can't go wrong. It really gives food for thought without leaving you with a headache - something that unfortunately can't be said for all social work texts.

Chris Beckett's style of writing is especially accessible. I enjoy reading Beckett's books and this is important, particularly when the books are part of course reading lists. I would recommend both the author and this book to others studying Social Work.
