Product Description

Product Description

Cattlemen ride alone across the open range under the deadly aim of roving desperadoes—Gamblers stake their fortunes and their lives on a deck of cards—Strong-willed senoritas seek independence through an enticing combination of beauty, audacity, and spirit—Lawmen and outlaws walk the same dusty streets and speak a common language: Colt, Winchester, Smith & Wesson. Gritty, tough, and unflinchingly authentic, here is the West as it really was: a land where for every friend there is an enemy, for every handshake a fist, for every dispute a resolution--usually in an explosive showdown of blood and bullets. In these remarkable tales, Louis L'Amour—like the very heroes he depicts—blazes a trail across the American frontier and takes us on an unforgiving journey into the heart of our western heritage.

Great atmospheric read. 15 May 2000
By nobizinfla - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
A most enjoyable ride thru the old west told in nine short stories.

Mr. L'Amour puts you right in the scene. You can almost feel the heat of the desert sun, taste the blowing alkali dust, see the Indians on the horizon and touch the hand tooled leather saddles.

He places you right in the middle of the action and the word paintings of the Southwest are magnificent. He brings the sunsets to life and allows the reader to visualize the stark beauty of the Arizona/New Mexico deserts.

The characters, both good and bad guys, are well sculpted and realistic. They epitomize the hard life that country bred and are easy to admire.

Along with Larry McMurtry, Louis L'Amour makes the western a gourmet read.

GREAT 2 May 2003
By Max Inman - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Valley of the Sun contains wonderful storys that you can read again and again. They are to the point, sharp and concise. If you have not traveled to Arizonia or New Mexico all you have to do is read this book. Pay close attention to L'Amour's descriptions and you will be able to save your money or you will want to go so bad you can not stand it. The storys in this book are fun and easy to read. I recommend it to any one who likes a good read.

Valley of the Sun by Louie L'Amour 6 May 2010
By Rose C. Mazur - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I have recently "discovered" L'Amour and like all the books I have read so far. He writes exceedingly well and I'm learning a lot about what it was like living in the early west. Right now I am reading "Talking Drum" and getting quite a bit of history in addition to an interesting plot. I intend to read as many of his books as I can. Usually I like mystery, historical novels, espionage, etc. so this is a welcome break from all that for the time being.
