Product Description

Product Description

Carrot Beddders had been a free spirit all his life, but when he finds a golden Wyoming valley he decides to settle down and raise cattle. With him is his childhood friend Abel Meagan and together they start building the life of which they had always dreamed. Then, they meet the spirited Emily Patterson, who captures both of their hearts and drives a rift between them. Now, Meagan's dreams are of an empire and he determines to conquer a land no matter who stands in his way. Neighbouring ranchers are not slow to accuse Bedders and Meagan of rustling cattle and there is a crescendo of resentment and rage in the whole valley. Despite all this, Meagan's herd continues to grow and violence seems destined to erupt. Soon, Bedders must take a stand against his lifelong friend and somehow find a way to stop the hate before it consumes the valley and lead begins to fly.

5.0 out of 5 stars you can taste the dust, 7 May 2004
By
Roger Eschbacher (Santa Clarita, California, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Valley of Hate (Black Horse Western) (Hardcover)
Burnham succeeds in capturing the flavor and feel of the old west without resorting to the trite cliches that often plague books of this genre. A fast and enjoyable read, Valley of Hate is nonetheless packed with the kind of detail and action that western buffs hope for in a novel. Recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bad Start, Good Finish, 12 Jun 2006
By
Senor Sock (Sherman Oaks, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Valley of Hate (Black Horse Western) (Hardcover)
For some reason the very first chapter of this western is a bit of a hard ride. I found it tough to get through and was skeptical as to the rest of the book. But much to my surprise and delight, the second chapter is off and running hard with six guns a blazin' and great western action and characters. Stick with it!

This review is from: Valley of Hate (Black Horse Western) (Hardcover)
This first Black Horse Western from Clay Burham reads like the work of an old pro. Excellent imagery and charactization in a tense tale of friendship and loyalty. The author effortlessly weaves western detail into driving narrative. Highly recommended.
