HISTORY
It all began in 1983 when Mr Bernd Schneider, founder of Vacu Vin, came up with the idea for the Vacuum Wine Saver. His idea for the Wine Saver sprang directly from the taste of spoiled wine
Together with his brother John, an engineer, he developed a device to preserve opened bottles of wine. Today, the Vacuum Wine Saver is used in over 30 million households in more than 75 countries throughout the world. In 1986 Vacu Vin was founded to manufacture and distribute the Vacuum Wine Saver, soon to be followed by the introduction of many other innovative houseware products. Today, the Vacu Vin product range has proven its success by being granted over 20 international Design and Trade Awards

The introduction of unique products with an added value enables Vacu Vin to offer something extra to both consumer and retailer. The uniqueness of the product range is being emphasised by the fact that all products are patented world-wide to avoid imitation by other companies
As an internationally operating company it is important to have a certain guideline and aim on which to focus. Vacu Vin`s focus is being described in the following mission statement

The Vacuum Wine Stoppers are used in combination with the Vacuum Wine Saver, sold separately. The Wine Saver is a vacuum pump, which extracts the air from an opened bottle and re-seals it with the re-usable rubber Vacuum Wine Stopper. Place the re-usable stopper in the bottle and extract the air from the bottle using the Wine Saver pump. The vacuum slows down the oxidation process which makes it possible to enjoy your wine again on a later date.

I've successfully used vacuvin wine stoppers for several years, not only for keeping table wine fresh for a day or two, but also for keeping port and sherry for several months. They would retain a seal for that long, and were great.
But after several years service, one of the stoppers wouldn't keep its suck any more, so I bought a couple more, like the ones shown in the picture above. The design has changed, from a soft silicone stopper to a two part one: part silicone, part hard plastic. And these don't work, not even for a couple of hours! Absolutely useless.
Luckily Lidl's had their own brand model on special offer today. A pump and two stoppers for about the same price as two stoppers here. And they work! Perhaps I should stock up while they are still available.

The Vacuvin system is simple but very useful. I often open a bottle of wine but don't finish it, and if I recork it it really doesn't taste too great when I return to it a day or two later. Vacuvin stoppers, on the other hand, use a simple but effective technology to draw air out of the bottle and form a tight seal which keeps the wine fresh. These stoppers are the old style ones (Vacuvin have since updated the styling), and they seem to be a little better than the new version. They also make a very satisfying sound when you take them out of the bottle! A simple product that quickly seems like a great buy.

These are great stoppers and come highly recommended. We run a vineyard and winery so need lots for our sample bottles and have used these very successfully for two years.

Don't work - avoid

Fits most bottles

The New Version works OK !
We have had the Mark 1 stopper for years. The Mark 2 seems to hold its vaccuum just as well :-) And, as you can pop it apart, it is possibly easier to rinse.
