Vacu Vin was established as a company in 1986 in order to manufacture and distribute the Wine Saver Pump and Vacuum Bottle Stoppers. The idea for the product emanated directly from the taste of spoiled wine - something that its inventors wanted to prevent once a bottle had been opened. The Vacu Vin Wine Saver was the first device of its kind that was available to the international market. It is now used in over 35 million households and more than 80 countries throughout the world. The award-winning device has been repeatedly imitated by numerous other manufacturers, but the Vacu Vin Wine Saver is still recognised as the market leader.

The Wine Saver is a vacuum pump that extracts the air from an opened wine bottle and re-seals it using a rubber stopper. The air-tight vacuum inhibits the oxidation process that is responsible for the deterioration of wine. The vacuum is created by placing a stopper into the neck of the opened bottle and pumping it until resistance is detectable. The pump incorporates a patented 'click' mechanism that indicates when a sufficient air-tight environment has been establsihed.

The Vacu Vin Wine Saver is suitable for all but sparkling wines. It is highly durable and easy to clean via wiping with warm water and conventional detergents (if necessary). The Wine Saver is also available in the following: 1) an alternative white colour that is also accompanied by 2 x grey stoppers; 2) a black or white pump that is packaged alongside 1 x grey stopper; 3) a stainless steel pump that contains 2 x grey stoppers and 2 x wine server crystal pourers; 4) an alternatively-shaped black concerto pump that is accompanied by 4 x grey stoppers; and 5) a larger black or white pump that has an enhanced vacuum-creation capacity. In addition, it can also be purchased as part of the Vacu Vin Wine Set, the Wine Saver Gift Set, the Wine Saver Concerto Gift Set and the Wine Essentials Gift Set (White/Purple or Black).

Essential for saving your opened wine for another day

I all but gave up buying wine until someone bought me one of these. I became frustrated by tipping half a bottle of good red wine down the sink a day after opening it when it had gone off, or feeling that I had to finish the bottle, and so feel worse for drink the day after. This item has changed all that. I no longer have to think about the waste if I just want a glass or two from a bottle. Simply push in the rubber bung and use the pump to suck all the air out. The wine keeps well for at least a week like this, and so is the perfect gizmo, if like me, you are a one or two glass per night regular wine drinker.
The bungs are also dishwasher safe and after two years in mine, are still good as new.
It may seem a little pricey for what it is, but considering the wine I have saved over the years, it really has been invaluable.
Simple, elegant, quality item.

I bought this and have never regreted it, in fact I loved it so much I bought this and the 'vacuvin' wine chiller for my friend for xmas and she loves it too!

You put the grey seal in an open bottle of wine and resting the black pump firmly on the seal just literally pump out the surplus air in the bottle. You can then keep an open bottle of wine, works on red and white but i'm not entirely sure about sparkling wine. There is another type of stopper for champagne and sparkling.

If your in any doubt of buying this...DON'T BE....brilliant idea :-)

Does what is says for the bottle.

An excellent product which actually works. To be honest I was a little sceptical when I first tried it but its a great product which could easily pay for its self if you have had to throw away spilt wine. Depending on the room temperature, type of wine and age your bottle could last a few days more to over ten!

I have found it to be excellent to keep a bottle of red open for one glass with a meal or cooking for a easy three or four days with almost no taste difference, which by I mean (depending on the bottle) on the fourth day it tastes like a nice aerated wine rather than sweet vinegar. Wonderful!

Operation could not be any easier too, place stopper in bottle, attach vacuum wine saver, pump till it clicks and that is all. Easy.

An excellent product, and good value too.

Very useful tool

Although I find an opened bottle of red wine lasts a good 3 days in the bottle as it is, the advantage of using this tool is you can open a good few bottles in one go (to get a bit of variety) and this will ensure they stay fresh for much longer, as is required to get through those bottles. It's an alcoholic's dream. It only comes with two stoppers so you'll have to purchase more of those to get full advantage (unless you prefer to have one or two bottles open and just like to take your time).

Vacuvin Wine "prolonging" kit Review

This is ideal for those situations where you have a bottle of wine at dinner time yet don't manage to finish it off, so rather than throwing it away or drinking it there and then and immediately regretting it as you have work the next day you may want to invest in this little kit. Essentially you place the gray rubber stopper into the top of the bottle and place the vacuum pump on the top of that and then pump it, it eventually becomes impossible to pump it any further which indicates you have removed as much air as possible. With most of the air removed you have a small vacuum inside the bottle which essentially stops the wine oxidizing. It works equally well with White, Red and indeed sparkling wine although it's only effective for around 24 hours (maybe 48 in the case of red wine if you place it in a cool place). After this period you notice that the wine deteriorates quite quickly.

Since using this kit we have yet to throw any bottle of wine away, so when i think of the amount of wine it has saved, it has essentially paid for itself.

VERDICT: Excellent product and essential if you want to keep those bottles of wine from going past their best. Very good value for money and the rubber stoppers and pump feel well made and should last years at the very least. To finish i will just say one last thing, don't expect this to keep a bottle of red wine for more than 2 days or 24 hours in the case of White/ sparkling wine. For most people an extra 24 hours should be long enough to finish it off.

A glass a day - makes these a very good purchase

For someone who appreciates a glass of wine only every now and then, these have been a blessing for the number of bottles I've saved, and the dollars that goes with it.

These are perfect for doing exactly what they say they'll do - keeping wine from going "off" after it's been opened and finished off over a week or two. Clean up is simple as the stoppers can be pulled in to two pieces for rinsing and cleaning under a tap.

Well designed, and seeming very sturdy, these should last quite some time. Including two stoppers it's all I need. I did note that additional stoppers are available for seperate purchase (in packs of two) - good for those who like a bit of variety through a week, or to keep bottles fresher after a dinner party where several bottles may have been opened, allowing you to finish them off over the coming fortnight.

In summary, very happy with this well made and thought out product.
