As a family we have always loved this wonderful comedy drama, and, although we had it on VHS, could never understand why it had never been issued on DVD. It's bizarre that we can only find this Britsh Television recording in a subtitled version for the Dutch market, and had to source it via the USA, at considerable expense! However, it is still worth every penny, and the Dutch subtitles don't get in the way. We greatly enjoyed it!

This is not one of the strongest adaptations of book to film, and it has received some very negative reviews, but the casting of Tara Fitzgerald was a master stroke. This is one for the followers of her work, some of which is very hard to find. I haven't found a UK DVD release for this film yet and the Dutch version (in English with subtitles), is itself scarce too(available usually from USA), so hence it is inevitably expensive. It is so frustrating that film collectors often find 'gaps' in the catalogue of artists due to restrictive distribution or lack of DVD releases. So my advice to any who follow Tara's career is, if you see it, get it! I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

Offbeat fun 21 Aug 2010

Not as enjoyable as the Mary Wesley novel on which it is based. But even though the acting was a bit strained I still enjoyed it. Poppy's vacilliations are the result of being dumped by the self involved Edmund and having to arrange her Father's funeral - he wanted a fun one. Her ensuing adventures are rather involved and include a couple of undertakers, a pig farmer, an old trout and a trip to North Africa. Stars Tara Fitzgerald, Charlotte Coleman (Four Weddings and a Funeral), Joseph Fiennes and Siān Phillips. I loved the beautiful Victorian funeral cortege.
