Outstanding 11 Dec 2006
Format:Paperback
Awaited by the VJ community for over 3 years, "A/V art + VJ culture" provides a definitive landmark for the rise of this (still) emerging scene, with its sleek graphic design and engaging illustrations, in-depth insights from over 100 worldwide contributors and accompanying dvd featuring landmark audio-visual pieces such as coldcut/hexstatic's "timber".

The essays provide a solid contextualisation for the many (and often mis-represented ) practices that get buried under the "VJ" tagline, without getting lost in techie-speech or being biased towards any particular style.

A great database to discover this shadowy breed of artists and their mysterious craft.

Just finished reading this book and have to say its amazing.

very insightful cross section of the Vj community. Much to be learnt about the wide range of VJs out there.

It has a good mix between articles on specific issues, looking at the world of VJs, and technical articles explaining how established VJs have their setup.

The DVD has been produced to a very high standard, and like the book lots of informative content is on it.

The book looks beautiful with all the UV pages, and so much design work has gone into it.

anyone who has not got this book yet is missing out big time, recommended to the highest degree.

Yes..This is a very impressive coffee-table book. It looks and feels great.. BUT..
Do not be mistaken (as I was) in thinking this is any kind of manual. It is more of a series of essays/interviews with VJs around the world. The companion dvd is nice.. but again.. nothing essential. This set is not a how to book by any stretch of the imagination. So if that's what you're looking for.. LOOK ELSEWHERE. If on the otherhand you want a cool looking book to show off to your guests.. then this will probably do quite well.
