opened up, put battery in, charged up, put SD card in.
away i went,
picture quality is ok but not great in the dark country lanes.
I need to try the quality options, I have used HD but not FHD yet.
plugged into pc and it comes straight up as a folder.
playback of the videos is great on VLC media player

Great little camera, just one negative comment to make.
I'm not sure if it was just the one that I received, but the software was all in Chinese.
The instructions were confusing, but I managed to get it displaying in English, after about 1 hour.
Another Hour or so to set it up,the battery is useless, I just run it from the car cigarette lighter socket.
For such a small price I still cant believe just how good this camera is.
I went to my local computer shop and purchased an SD card (8 Gigs) it was only Nine pounds works great.
Ordered it on Sunday Night, parcel arrived the next Saturday morning.
Well worth the money, good protection against Bad Drivers.
Thank you
YO.

Good for all drivers who wish to keep there no claims bonus. Fits nicely on the wind screen and works very well in low light, thanks to its night vision mode. Only let down is on a long trip you will need to run it from the lead supplied as the battery life is short. I have even used this product to monitor the car from a distance on the motion detector mode, stuck it inside the window pointing at the car. Thank you

The camera is very good, just what I needed, good clear images. Record time obviously depends on the card you are using, I find a 16gig SDHC card sufficient. I have got as issue with in-car charging. The one supplied with the camera is not working, I have tried it in three different vehicles. I have contacted the seller but to date have received no reply which I do find unsatisfactory. If it was not for issues from seller I would have given this product 4 or 5 stars.

My tire fitter recommended this unit to me which he bought after being involved in a crash for cash scam. He was delighted with it, but when pressed, he hadn't actually viewed the output of the camera, but he found it an excellent deterrent to people trying to rip him off.

Anyway, deterrent function aside, it's actually not a bad little budget dash-camera. It's important to remember that this is optimised for car use, so some of its features are useful as a dash-cam, but unhelpful when used as a camera out of the car. Here are the foibles that mine exhibits.

Firstly, if the HD DVR is connected to a power source, I can't turn it off. This was frustrating and a little disturbing initially, but once I worked out I had to unplug it to turn it off, it stopped being an issue. Secondly, as soon as it's connected to a power source, it starts recording. Initially this was very annoying, but when you consider it's a dash-cam, it makes perfect sense. You have to get your head round these things to use them comfortably. It's not really intended to be used with just its battery. The way these dash cameras work is that you add power, they start recording. You stop power, they stop recording, save the file and turn themselves off. The battery makes sure you always get your file saved. Additionally they have a screen-saver which switches the screen off after a few minutes. You can disable it, but it's distracting so it's worth having the screen time out.

That's the foibles dealt with. Other than that it's a basic video camera with basic menus and a low-res screen.

Video quality is good enough to read registration numbers if the car is close enough to have caused you an issue, but don't expect miracles at this price.

For work purposes a few years ago I needed to record video from the car. That involved a multi-£100 videocam and a hotch-potch of velcro etc etc to mount it. The resulting quality was excellent but a bit intrusive once set up. This little thing produces lower quality video (everything seems to have a red tinge, but playing with the settings might fix this), the picture is not as sharp as I'd like it to be (but for the purpose of guarding against insurance fraud it is probably ok), and how you are supposed to charge the (flat) battery for 12 hours as per the manual I don't know as the charger is only a cigar-lighter type, for the car (I tried an adapter I had from house mains to car but it clearly didn't put out enough current). However, the basic auto-on/auto-off function seems to work ok and the files (AVI, therefore large) run ok on the PC. Time will tell if the quality lasts.

At the cost (as long as it lasts) it cannot be beaten and I will be installing another in my wife's car and will be looking into whether or not it might reduce the insurance cost for my 17 year old son once he passes his test (the inherited car is worth hee-haw but the insurance is currently looking like £3,000 plus).

DCH

PS - after reading an earlier review I feel a bit dumb cos a USB (A to B) type cable came with it and that might charge from my PC (duh!)

PPS - I spent the extra and put in a grade (?) 10 SD card and have set the recordings to the maximum length and every recording has proved to be flawless (apart from above quality issues).
