Product Description

Product Description

Blitzen Trappers seventh studio album, VII, will be released on British indie label Lojinx on the 30th of September. The album is full of the vivid folk-rock-campfire-tales that frontman Eric Earley is so well known for. VII opens with Feel The Chill , a southern adventure complete with a woman in her underwear, deer hunting, and of course drowning at the local bar. Earley takes us down a crooked bend so dark and gloomy you can smell the heat and feel the humidity oppress you. Each song starts from a small place, a headwater-like remembrance and then widens into a song. For instance, that old wreck of a shack buried in evergreen and murky darkness at the bend in the road up on Jackson Hill where we used to drink, never failed to give me a chill driving by in the old Impala for its implacable mystery , Earley notes.

Came across this band by accident on you tube, and so glad I did! This is their latest, seventh actually, hence the title, and it's brilliant. The sound is all their own, but there are shades of The Band and The Byrds in there too.

HASH(0x9da15660) out of 5 stars Like a dirtier, swampier American Goldwing 30 Sept. 2013

I saw Blitzen Trapper perform most of this album live at SLC's Twilight Summer Concert series. To be honest, I was not happy when they'd say, "Here's another one form the NEW album, out this fall!" 'cause I wanted to hear more from Furr and Destroyer of the Void, not some album that wasn't even out yet. But the new songs sounded REALLY good. I've been waiting for this album. Now that it's here, and I've listened to it a few times, I'm glad to say it really stands up. It's not often that I hear a song once, live, and remember it, but Feel the Chill and Heart Attack both stuck after one live listen.

Very excited to get to know these songs. It's like American Goldwing played in reverse from a dark, smokey swamp shack.

HASH(0x9dec65dc) out of 5 stars Blitzen Trapper finally strikes out 24 Mar. 2014

I've loved every Blitzen Trapper album up to this one, but VII has a sameness to much of the music that's boring, and several songs in the middle of the set dabble in rap. Only two songs have that timeless Blitzen Trapper feel. I'm disappointed.

HASH(0x9d937b40) out of 5 stars Northwest gem 6 Jan. 2014

This band continues to revive 70's rock with a folksy twist. The is one garbage track on this album Oregon geography but other than that track this is a fantastic album. Furr is still their best album but this one definitely satisfies!

Fantastic production, hooky stories and Buffalo Springfield/Byrds/Beatles/ Band roots blended in fresh ways. Love the guitar touches that echo the vocals.

HASH(0x9e4adb64) out of 5 stars another strong album from a great band 8 Oct. 2013

Liked it 'out of the box,' but really grew on me after a few listens... lots of subtleties and nuance - layers of sound with the typical good lyrics. Def my new favorite band since mid-2012! No complaints.
