Wanting to digitally copy many old film slides and some negatives, but not prepared to fork out for top end scanners the choice seemed to be between the Ohnar copier and a cheap dedicated scanner with 5Mp. Even my old camera boasts 8Mp so I took the plunge. Very pleased I did. The Ohnar screwed easily onto the standard lens, the camera pointed at a white card lit with daylight bulb, small aperture, couple of test exposures and we were in business. Contrary to the instructions I found single AF better than manual focus because the view is quite dark. The plastic slide carrier is easy to use with slides but inserting film strips through the tight slots is fiddly. Once in though I obtained clear photos of the negs which were converted to positive in Elements 6. If one has a DSLR then this is a useful gadget for archiving your old photos. Some ingenuity may be needed to attach it to a compact and there must be a way of zooming in to fill the frame.
