Product Description

This Digital Slide Duplicator can be adapted to screw into the filter thread of almost all SLR cameras Video cameras and still digital cameras. The built-in close-up optics allows you to make full use of your zoom and selectively crop the image if desired. Since most modern camcorders and digital movie cameras now have automatic white balance you can virtually use any light source to illuminate the slides for copying. What you can do with a copierBest results are obtained with well exposed low to medium contrast slides. A filter effect can be added by placing suitable filters between camera and duplicator. Create more drama in video presentations by using the zoom lens to home-in on the centre of the slide and so creating a sense of motion. Add sound to your photo presentation by using the Audio Dub feature on your camera. The lens of the Digital Duplicator can be used as a +10 close-up lens. This device has a 52MM thread and so you'll also need an appropriate stepping ring to mount it on your camcorders filter thread. (see Filters and Stepping Rings section).

Useful gadget 4 Feb 2009
By Peter J
Wanting to digitally copy many old film slides and some negatives, but not prepared to fork out for top end scanners the choice seemed to be between the Ohnar copier and a cheap dedicated scanner with 5Mp. Even my old camera boasts 8Mp so I took the plunge. Very pleased I did. The Ohnar screwed easily onto the standard lens, the camera pointed at a white card lit with daylight bulb, small aperture, couple of test exposures and we were in business. Contrary to the instructions I found single AF better than manual focus because the view is quite dark. The plastic slide carrier is easy to use with slides but inserting film strips through the tight slots is fiddly. Once in though I obtained clear photos of the negs which were converted to positive in Elements 6. If one has a DSLR then this is a useful gadget for archiving your old photos. Some ingenuity may be needed to attach it to a compact and there must be a way of zooming in to fill the frame.

Ohnar Slide Copier 8 Feb 2011
By Stuart
The Ohnar Slide Copier had two reviews when I first looked it up. One was very good while the other was poor. I decided to have a look for myself. Certainly it didn't work well on my Pentax DSLR with its standard kit lens, then I noticed that the product recommended a longer lens so I brought forward the purchase a Pentax 50-200 zoom lens. With this the copier performs perfectly with the ability to easily select parts of a slide. It could do with a mount for film as well but I have managed to make one of these and now have a superb negative copier too. A great piece of gear and I am so pleased I took notice of the good review and bought one. Full marks! OHNAR VIDEO SLIDE COPIER (52mm MOUNT)

The OHNAR HD Digital Slide Copier is a cheap but very disappointing product. I have used it with a Nikon D90 and two step down rings 67 to 52mm overall and I can only get the central portion of the slide in focus.
