For a large cast iron pan, this is **comparatively** light - not like Le Creuset for instance. This is because it is not excessively thick - elegant by cast iron standards and nicely finished It is a fantastically useful item for many types of cooking, certainly not just paella. It can take a very high temperature. As an Aga owner, the fact that it is the maximum size that will fit into an Aga oven is a bonus. I use it several times each week and it is easy to clean (by hand, not in the dishwasher). Shop around, as I've seen this on sale at a very wide spread of prices.
I've got to say that I'm hugely pleased by this pan and bought a second for my sister. If you like cast iron cooking, this is one of the best.
ADDITION July 2011 : I saw that my original review is attached to a product with different shaped handles, so maybe the pan has been updated. Unsure whether to delete my review or leave it, so beware.
