Product Description

VFR stands for `Visual Flight Rules` - this is the way that pilots navigate when they aren`t using complex instruments they look at a map and then pinpoint landmarks on the ground to work out their course and position. It`s the most common form of recreational flying undertaken in the UK, but to do this in a flight simulator requires scenery that`s exactly the same as the real landscape. VFR Real Scenery is an amazing piece of software that provides just that - fly over England and Wales in Flight Simulator X and sample the view you`d get from a real aircraft. You can see the real countryside from the air and pinpoint every key landmark. It`s all featured streets, buildings, rivers, lakes, reservoirs& and all at extremely high resolution and detail!

  • Hampshire
  • Berkshire
  • Wiltshire
  • Oxfordshire
  • Gloucestershire
  • Warwickshire
  • Worcestershire
  • Leicestershire
  • Nottinghamshire
  • Staffordshire
  • and parts of Dorset, West Sussex, Surrey, Northamptonshire, Derbyshire, Shropshire, Herefordshire and Cheshire.

Requires Flight Simulator X to Play

Fun:
Living in Derbyshire I was keen to fly the Derbyshire dales and explore the countryside around my area. I was very impressed considering the cost of the product. I have a high performance PC with good graphics card. The water effects seemed over the top and the hills seemed a little flat but what do you expect, these are real world graphics not generated as a computor game. Just Flight website has videos and demos of small areas of some of its scenery and is well worth a visit. Try the demo of Snowdonia! awesome got to get that as a Christmas present.

Just don't expect the scenery in the series to be exactly as from a small aircraft but a very worthwhile addition to you flight sim and the product is good value and enormous fun especially if you like following roads you usually drive on.

Fun:
Owning both FS2002 and FSX, I bought this for FS2002 mainly because it was, on the whole, cheaper, and also because the added scenery wouldn't make the very smoothly running FS2002 go noticeably slower, compared to what might happen with FSX on my mid-range laptop. The main reason for getting it, apart from the visual niceities, was to enable me to fly more realistically on Vatsim (an online multiplayer ATC and flying network extension for Flight Simulator), since I could then go by visual waypoints etc. not visible on FS2002's standard scenery data.

I was moderately pleased with the result - certainly from 4000 feet it was perfect, 2000 feet still worked but looked slightly strange, and below 1000 feet it didn't really make sense at all.

However, it still looks very flat (not that the description implied any terrain data). I haven't tried yet with a terrain expansion, but that's my aim.

The program ran fine with it on, with no noticeable differences apart from the increased loading time (went to about 3 mins. from 15 secs). However, you can turn it off if you just want a quick flight, and the added loading time wasn't much of a problem.

However, I see from reviews of the FSX scenery expansion that it comes with terrain, something that would probably tip the scale in the other direction for me if I had the same choice again. The scenery is probably better, as well...

All in all, it's a reasonable product, although the Amazon price is slightly steep. If you only own FS2002/2004, and want to do something like Vatsim or just fly around your own village, then I would still recommend it.

Blur Blur Blur!!! 13 May 2012

Fun:
I looked A LOT asto decide which of the two leaders in the market to get. Generation X or VFR Real.

Got twice burned with this one as my delivery the first time got me a half box with the box and disc destroyed. So had to buy otherplace as this was not imediate avaliable from Amazon. Amazon honored the transaction with a refund.

To the actual item.

This has to be the worst photoscenery I ever seen in my life. I have seen Greek Free photosceneries from 2004! tha look like real. This here is a BLUR thing that will take your eyes out. I got the message that I burned my money when I was installing. Could it be more BLUR???

I will go for Generation X, and if this also turns to be like that, then both companies should ask the Greeks how to make a good product.

It is rediculus they advertise of where they got the images. Google maps are 1000% more clear, grisp and better coloured.

DO NOT buy this, you will be disapointed.
