I'm middle aged, gave up smoking 2 months ago, have painful hips on exertion and poor co-ordination in my legs. Probably a mid-life crisis but definitely time to try and get fit. I can't do regular exercise with my problems so a recumbent cycle was recommended by my physiotherapist as it takes the stress off the hips.
I didn't realise how bad my ataxia (poor co-ordination) and lack of muscle tone had become because at first my legs would just shake uncontrollably, but with perseverance and following the instruction manual it has gradually improved. I am still only doing 5 minutes a day but managing longer distances every time, my muscle tone has improved and I no longer need my walking stick around the house. My ataxia has improved dramatically and I thought it could never get any better, only worse!!
The digital display gives you various readings - pulse rate, distance, time, speed etc. which allows you to follow the instruction manual correctly so as not to over exert yourself.
I would highly recommend this for anyone who is recovering from hip/knee etc. surgery (consult your doc'), mobility problems like myself, or anyone just wanting to get fit because it certainly gets the heart pumping! V. sturdy, a great price, assembled in about half an hour (not particularly difficult), doesn't take up too much room and arrived before its' expected delivery date.
