Guilty Pleasure,
By Gaffrey (Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: V - The Complete Series [DVD] (DVD)
"V" the series Season 1(& only season)19 episodes, left behind the creative sensibility of creator Kenneth Johnson of the excellent "V" original mini series(2 parter) and the sequel "V - The Final Battle"(3 parter). However as a kid growing up in the 80s the series was entertaining despite it's reused FX shots and soap opera drama aboard the mothership between Diana and Lydia, the love triangle btween Starchild Elizabeth, mother Robin & Kyle. Unfortunately Mike Donovan & Juliet Parrish characters often took a back seat storywise but were involved fortunately in the action. Departure of Michael Irinside mid-season as Ham Tyler was a big mistake. However as 'camp' illogical science fiction it entertains never-the-less and I'm glad I purchased it after all having not seen the series since 20yrs ago worth it for nostalgia. Certainly NOT the quality of it's mini-series.

Strictly For Fans,
This review is from: V - The Complete Series [DVD] (DVD)
Had to admit I didn't remember this being aired, though after re-finding the original Mini series on DVD was elated to know this existed to, what a bonus!. However as previous reviewers have mentioned, this weekly sequal suffered from smaller budgets and dwindling plots, but to be honest, if you love the two mini series you should definiatly buy this. As a stand alone its camp, lots of big hair and eighties cheese, but in the context of the V universe is essential viewing. The reason I didnt give this a higher star rating was due to the quality of transfer to DVD, which to put bluntly is bad, bad, bad. It looks like its been taken from some second generation VHS copy stored in a basement for 20 years, even the theme tune is distorted to comical effect if you listen closely. This aside I reccomend this weekly series as classic V and Sci Fi viewing.

Shockingly bad picture quality,

This review is from: V - The Complete Series [DVD] (DVD)
Unlike the earlier films this DVD has been transferred badly to DVD. There is pixellation and its grainy. Even the music is wowing and fluttering like its been played off a well worn out VT machine. To allow this to be released in this state is unthinkable but they did it. Only buy this if you are not bothered by terrible picture quality.
