If you want a book clearly outlining the life and work of the architect of the most famous building in the world then this is it. It includes detailed descriptions of all his other buildings, and does not solely focus on the infamous Sydney Opera house, the saga of the design, engineering and actual political problems that beset this building has been documented several times in various other books. However the Sydney Opera does of course get a mention, with a lot of pages being devoted to it, but this book focuses on the design of the opera house, and Utzon's vision for it. However it is the focus on his lesser known work, that is not so highly documented that makes this book worthwhile.
The book deals with Utzon's life in chronological order, with the beginning chapters focusing on Utzon's training, and early smaller projects with later chapters being devoted to individual projects like the Sydney Opera, church at Bagsværd and the Kuwait National Assembly building to mention a few. Each project is illustrated with beautiful pictures of the buildings, completed and throughout the design and build stage, and through this the complexity of the design and engineering of his buildings can be understood.
This is the only book I have found to clearly explain Utzon's other architectural work, and not rely too heavily on the building that made him famous. So if you want a book to learn more about Utzon's other work, as well as his underlying architectural design philosophy then this is it.
