'- a deadly race to unearth the secrets of a vast alien habitat ...'

Grask has regrets.
Done things he isn't proud of.
Singlehandedly sabotaged global economies.
Brought entire civilizations to their knees.
Killed more enemies than he can remember.

So when the chance of redemption comes from an unexpected source,
he faces a dilemma: return to his unscrupulous past or remain condemned to hell.
Either way, the outcome won't be good ...

A vast alien artifact has been discovered far out on the galactic rim.
It looks ancient. Impossible to say if it's still populated, and if so by whom.
A team of misfits are sent on a daring assignment to investigate.
Their mission: to unearth the habitat's secrets and hopefully stay alive in the process.
What follows is a deadly race to the truth, culminating in a shocking revelation ...

Thumbs-up All Round! 19 Dec 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I picked this one up after reading the writer's other book Killing Hope which I loved. Although completely different, this one is just as good. Uth is another rollercoaster plotline with clever characters trying to get themselves out of dire scrapes. Loved it! Another page turner that left me fulfilled when I got to the end but also a little sad that the journey was over. I can't wait for the next ride! Highly recommended!!

Quite a good story. Witty dialog, interesting characters, and "lost civilization" adventure keep the plot moving along briskly. The plot twists are handled smartly and it has a satisfying (if not storybook) ending. This is ideal reading for sci-fi fans looking for something familiar to read from a new author.

Favourable reviews gave me the hope that 'Uth' would be worth reading: not so. Houghton is a borderline illiterate, with very little idea of grammar, punctuation, plot, characterisation or wit. Perhaps I'm being unkind; perhaps he's just an average product of the American education system.

In particular the way he punctuates dialogue is annoying (for example:'"My name is presently irrelevant." The woman answered curtly.' instead of the more usual:'"My name is presently irrelevant," the woman answered curtly.'). This breaking up of dialogue into sentences arrests the flow of reading and becomes irritating. His use of very short paragraphs and plenty of exclamation marks:

Is really tedious!

I should say so!

I could have forgiven all this if the plot had anything to grip the imagination. As it is, my conclusion can only be that 'Uth' is a WOMBAT (a Waste Of Money Brains And Time). One star is too many.

Not bad but not great
New to Kindle I am trying a few new SiFi writers on the cheap. Uth is a good read but I am glad I only paid £1.91 but it was worth its price. Read more

Great journey into the future
Great yarn. Love it when a book can take me to hitherto unimagined futurscape's and this one certainly did. Loved the galactic scenery as I was taken on a journey to another world. Read more

A solid entry marred by a few rough edges
