I have taught courses in Social Work Practice with Groups for 20 years and have not, until now, found a text as clear and user-friendly as Using Groupwork by Professor Mark Doel of the UK. Based on the author's extensive research and practice experience this book offers insights into best group work practices, augmented by the voices of group workers and members in nine different groups. Additionally, the text includes a wealth of experiential exercises and activities for use in groups and in the group work classroom. The model of group work presented here is based on theory integrated with practice but comes alive in a way that many texts, overly constrained by theoretical baggage and removed from the real world of group work practice, fail to do. I intend to use this book in my courses and recommend it highly to other group work educators.
