Product Description

Review

Using Communication Theory was a rarity in bridging the gap between ideas and practice. It was itself a model of good communication and in its second, revised edition, it is still a most reliable and accessible guide to the lessons that communication theory and research offer to practitioners, especially in planning for change.

(Denis McQuail)

Using Communication Theory has became a classic in the education of communication. It is the comprehensive and self-evident source for theories and models, forming the base for the study of professions requiring communication planning. (Larsåke Larsson)

Format: Paperback
This first edition of this textbook provided a clear, rigorous treatment of the subject. The second edition has beneifited from updating but also notably from more 'pedagogogical' features (e.g. learning activities, specification of learning outcomes, reflection points) that make it an out-and-out text / genuine learning resource. It hasn't been dumbe down at all. Like it!

It really does what it says on the tin. A practical introduction guide to communication theory! Of note is its approach to the learning material - goals of each chapter, terminology etc. A great book to open one's mind to the world of communication theory but also useful as a reference or to refresh one's knowledge of the theories.

This was a core book for one of my degree course modules, very relevant to the course, reads nicely, with communication theories explained.
