I am teaching system design and have after thoughtful consideration chosen the UIM book as part of the curriculum. I know of no other book that in so few pages can provide concrete methodological guidance to what is most important in a user innovation process. Naturally, it does not cover all aspects of an innnovation project and most readers will probably also read some project management, OOA/OOD, economics (e.g. von Hippel) and the participatory design literature that underlies Kanstrup & Bertelsen's book. However, each chapter contains nice directions to further readings. It also adds to my confidence of the book that I know that the authors have practiced what they have written about.

So, this book is not for those that are looking for in-depth, sustained arguments pro and contra user innovation with thorough empirical support. This book is rather for those who are new to the field and need an overview and see examples of the practical implications, or having only time for one book.
