The authors believe that Earth was hit by a comet in 7640 BC, and by another one in 3150 BC, each time resulting in great devastation. From their study of Stone Age monuments around Britain, and of the non-Biblical Book of Enoch, they conclude that Enoch visited Britain some time before 3150 BC to learn how to construct a megalithic celestial calculator which, amongst other things, could be used to forecast the arrival of comets.

In the end, of course, there can be no absolute proof of this or any other rewriting of history--or indeed of more orthodox versions of history. Through their insider's view of Freemasonry, and several years of research, the authors analyse ancient traditions in order to expose fascinating novel insights into key stages in human history. The topics presented are thoroughly researched, and the arguments are objective, logical, structured, clearly presented and easy to follow. There is an intelligent balance of detail and relevance in the information presented.

Substantial scientific data are cited to support the case that the biblical flood was an authentic historical event, with a clearly identified cause dated to the relevant period, and global cataclysmic effects that can still readily be seen today. An impressive ancient understanding of geometry, astronomy, navigation, the measurement of time, and other sciences, is revealed in the legacy of our distant ancestors. Persuasive documentary and archaeological proof is presented, together with interesting anecdotal evidence, to suggest how pre-historic wisdom was acquired and carefully handed down by secret organisations. An intriguing series of events are described, from the knowledge taught to Enoch by the angel Uriel, through the construction of megalithic monuments, to the creation and shaping of nations and religions, and the formation of modern secret societies - even the mysterious agenda of the New World Order. The book culminates in some astonishing observations on the influence of ancient traditions on today's modern civilisation. Royal and aristocratic bloodlines are traced back to high-priests from the ancient middle-east. Their secret knowledge is guarded by an elite Masonic brotherhood, organised by some of the world's most influential people. It seems that a sacred ideology - established in a legendary ancient era when gods lived on Earth among men - may be about to return to govern the world.

For those of you who hoped that Uriel's Machine was one of the several items discovered in the basement of Rosslyn Chapel......it isn't. (It isn't even a machine.) Except for a short update in the appendix about the progress of the Rosslyn Chapel dig, this book has little or nothing to do with the intriguing theme of the authors' previous two books, The Hiram Key, and The Second Messiah.

However, once over that disappointment, you will find that this book has great stature on its own. Knight and Lomas have a talent for interpreting history in such a fresh and convincing manner that you can never view traditional history the same way again. In this book, the authors give us new information about "The Flood", 2)development of pre-historical civilization, 3) the Book of Enoch, 4)the importance of the megalithic structures in Great Britain, 5)the prominence of Venus, and 6)a possible pre-historic universal unit of measure,{ 7)amongst other things}. They tie much of this to Freemasonic doctrine and rituals as only they can do.

This is another solid entry into an area I call "New History", that is, the recent surge of works by Hancock, Baigent,Leigh, Lincoln, Knight, Lomas, Gardener, Thiering,et.al. which are regaling us with fascinating new insights into many significant areas of history, theology, technology, and culture. Given all the recent discoveries and revelations about ancient civilizations. it won't be long before the concept of "prehistory" will be "a thing of the past". END

The first half of this book was fascinating. The possibility of a worldwide flood being a reality caused by multiple cometary impacts a la Shoemaker-Levy 9 was an intriguing speculation. However, having made it, the authors moved on rather too quickly. This is a possibility that could do with further investigation, and more evidence to back it up. Did they move on so quickly because the evidence doesn't exist? The speculation about the possible function of megalithic stone circles as predictors of cometary impacts was also intriguing, but again the authors moved on, this time to their usual "origins of freemasonry" agenda. This is where the book got dull. This reader forgot what the authors' thesis really was, and began to wonder if the authors had forgotten as well. For "Ancient Origins of Science", read "Ancient Origins of Observational Astronomy and ..er, Freemasonry". A book that is nevertheless rich in intriguing speculations (perhaps too many), which will no doubt spawn further bestsellers from two authors who can be both exciting and infuriatingly dull. It didn't quite live up to its earlier promise, but it will have you digging through your science and history books.
