Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

Urban Mover is without doubt one the world's most innovative dedicated electric vehicle (EV) companies and is fast becoming one of the most respected brands in its sector. Urban Mover is not about marketing fads and theme invention just for arts sake. In all our products there is a real sense of purpose, practicality and usability. In our design, there is a purity and legitimacy to the process and a dogged sense of conviction to the finished product. Good design has longevity, and this is reflected in the core product that we offer our customers. The challenge is not just to maintain this value, but to continually improve designs based on our dealers and customers needs. The main benefits of electric bikes 1. Greater distance for the same effort This is the main advantage. A quality electric bike effectively flattens hills, increasing your average speed and eliminating the stress factor when a hill aproaches. So long as you supply a reasonable amount of effort, you can expect to climb hills of up to 14% on an Urban Mover electric bike with ease and more. 2. Safety Pulling away from a busy intersection in heavy traffic on a normal bike can be extremely daunting. But with the extra assistance that you get from an Urban Mover electric bike, you can zoom ahead with little effort and increased safety by keeping up with the average car speed in a busy urban environment. 3. Fitness Of course a conventional bike will generally keep you much fitter, but that of course depends on how much – if at all – it is used. Research form the Transport Research Laboratory in the UK (Davis and Hartley 1998) has shown that 46% of conventional bikes are only used twice a week, with a further 30% of bikes used for only once a fortnight or less. However, a report from Leeds University (Neil Guthrie 2001) reveals that in a survey of electric bike owners – a third of respondents used their bikes typically at least once a day and 81% used their electric bikes at least once a week. Therefore an electric bike typically gets used at least twice as often as a conventional bicycle. Moreover, riding an electric bicycle is more enjoyable in mountainous terrain and in windy conditions and users tend to make better use of them because the motor can provide half the normal effort of cycling taking the sting out of long runs. Therefore more regular use equals the same amount of physical effort required for a conventional bike due to more regular 4. A to B - No Sweat! Persperation may not be a serious issue when you're out for a leisurely ride, but it's more important if you're cycling to work. Although some businesses are providing showers and other facilities for cyclists under duress, the great majority have little intention of doing so. An Urban Mover electric bike eliminates the problem at source. In hot weather, it's possible to maintain a steady ride as if cycling a convetional bicycle on level ground, by letting the electric power stystem take the strain. If you feel in need of exercise or in colder weather - our bikes are so light that you can just pedal without battery assistance. 5. Clean & Green The amount of energy used by one of our bikes is very small compared to a petrol motorcycle or car. Aside from the obvious need for electricity to charge the battery, the only consumables are the batteries, and these can all be recycled when they come to the end of their life. As for energy use, electric bikes typically consume fuel at an average rate of 100 to 150 watts of electrical energy, against 15,000 or more for a car (albeit travelling much faster). Regarding fuel consumption, an Urban Mover electric bike achieves about 1000mpg. There is no other commercially available vehicle that can match this all round performance. 6. Sustainable There's a lot of hype surrounding sustainability in transport, but an Urban Mover electric bicycle can be made wholly sustainableif you generate your own power with a wind generator or solar panels or buy your electricity from a 'green' supplier. Of course a normal bicycle already does that, but only if you grow the food you consume whilst riding it. However, most modern food production and distribution is so carbon-intensive that the consumption of a typical cyclist is not terribly good. 7. Speedier travel The average speed in most urban city environments averages about 8mph. Congestion is the main problem. An electric bike can maintain a higher average speed than a traditional bicycle whilst taking advantage of the same network of cycle facilities (that a motorcycle can't do), gaining access to routes that cars and motorcycles cannot reach. The result is usually a faster door-to-door journey time than any other mode and by taking advantage of the uncongested cycle network - eliminating hills and headwinds - electric bikes are normally the most consistent mode of travel. 8. Great residuals Electric bikes are in the evolving new technology sector at the moment, but all the evidence points to a much better resale value (residual) than say a conventional bike. Although a quality electric bike generally costs more to buy, at £700-£1,200, you should get most of that back if you sell the electric bike on. 9. Powered motoring - without the hassle No MOT, no log book, no Tax disc, no congestion charges, no parking charges (normally) no compulsory insurance (although we strongly recommend it) and no rising carbon fuel costs. Urban Mover Electric bikes are classed as a normal bike by law (although power assisted) therefore there's absolutely no registration or paperwork to worry about. Long term cost savings Electricity to power an electric bike costs roughly 4% of the fuel costs for a car. maintenance and repair costs are also much less. So every mile you ride saves money. If you combine an Urban Mover with public transport, you can go almost anywhere. • Electric scooters and bicycles are the first affordable electric vehicles. • They are immensely practical. • In addition to helping ease traffic congestion, riding an electric bike enables you to glide past traffic jams with the greatest of ease. Fast4ward to the future

Urban Mover UM 44S 14 Jan 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase
Dear sirs,

I had carried out some research before I chose the Urban Mover, mainly since it is sold by Halfords as they should be able to service and supply parts. I have decided it is necessary to fit a hand throttle when I can obtain the parts.
The bike has only been used once (due to icy road conditions) and has performed much as I would have expected.
Regards
Ralph Halley

I like it, but ... 10 Jan 2012
By destok - Published on Amazon.com
The e-moto 2.0 velocity is a nice bike. It seems build like a tank. It definitely is quite a bit heavier then my mountain bike.
I plan to use this bike on a daily 10 mile commute. I really want to like this product, and it does have a lot of pro's going for it.
Pros:
- fenders
- shipped with a solid chain lock
- nice "leather" seat and handholds
- like the upright position when riding (not hung over, mountain bike style)
- Its plenty fast (very limited test, due to reasons below)
- well balanced even though its a heavy bike, center of gravity is low.
- you can pedal it easy with battery switched off
- nice colors
- does the job, its fast
- cheap (I paid 1180 USD), which is a good price for a bike with this range.

Assembling it is a challenge since no instructions were included, and the ones on their website are for an older version of the product. Come on e-moto, get with the program. Assembly took me an hour.
Shipping was late and the box arrived already open. If E-moto would take the extra few steps in improving their packaging, I believe they would have much happier customers.
Because of this, I also ended up with 2 cut off spokes on the front wheel (cost me 11$ to have it fixed at REI). Funny thing is that the repair guy recognized the e-moto wheel and explained they had had 4 to 5 similar cases.
Additionally I have a slow leak at the rear valve, which was probably caused by the slime product they put in. Could they not have tested and shipped with an inflated tire?

Gripes:
- It doesn't have a light included with it. That would have been a nice addition.
- Poor packing and documentation
- unclear were I will be able to buy a new battery when this one runs out
- leaky valve

Beware:
- this bike is pedal assist. You have to pedal to engage the battery. I personally like this, but will have to see how I like it in the long run. There is an option to install a throttle. Not sure how or who does that.

Have Fun !!

Sooo much FUN!!! 13 July 2011

This bike lets me get out and have fun and not fret the hills :) The motor only kicks in when you're peddling so its not a free ride... You'll have to change gears when going uphill. Its electric motor is pretty silent and others don't even notice that you're riding a power assisted bike. Its so much fun that I've been riding 10-20 miles a day and I've lost some weight too!

disappointing 26 July 2011

This bike arrived on time. However, it was not the bike pictured on amazon. It is, however similar, and equal in power. Well, it was so badly dammaged in shipping, that the 2 racks that go over the fenders were cracked. The panel on the handle bars that has the power button also has a button for headlight, but there is no head light. Also, a spoke was broke. The assembly instructions were extremely poor. I did not call customer service because I knew they would tell me to box it up and send it back... which would of taken several hours. I took it to one bike shop, and they told me they dont do electric bikes. .... so beware, your local bike dealer may not service this bike. Fortunately, I was able to find a shop to put it together.

After assembly and a charge, the ride was nice and smooth, and the power from the moter made riding on a flat surface effortless, and going up hills very easy. I rode for 1 hour before the energy gague went down 1 notch (1 of 4). So, aside from the fact that the bike is not the one pictured, and minus 2 broken racks, inadequate assembly instructions, and a missing headlamp, and a broken spoke, I am reluctant to allow this item to be more deserving of anything over 2 stars. I would expect that anyone who pays $1500 for a bike should at least get the bike pictured, and not have all these problems.
