The film itself is outstanding, and only the second to snare a Best Picture nomination at the Academy Awards. Telling the story of 78-year old Carl Fredericksen as he embarks, along with boy scout Russell, on a journey he promised his late wife he’d always take, it’s a stunning piece of work. Most memorable is one of the most moving sequences ever committed to animation, which hits you in the film’s first ten minutes, but there’s still plenty to keep you enthralled after that.
One of the most striking features of Up is just how visually arresting it is. The visuals crackle with exceptional levels of detail here, with a broad palette of colours shining through on the stunning 1080p video transfer. This really is reference-quality work, and just from a home cinema demonstration point of view, Up is a flat-out must buy.
But it’s more than that. It’s also one of the most ambitious, at-times original and boldest films to come out of Hollywood in recent times. When most other animation studios are content to stuff their films with cute animals and star names, Pixar continues to take risks, and while Up isn’t a perfect ride, it’s not too far off. A wonderful film, brilliantly transferred to Blu-ray. --Simon Brew
78-year-old Carl Fredricksen has always dreamed of seeing the rainforests of South America. To achieve this, Carl comes up with the spectacular scheme of tying thousands of balloons to his house and floating around the world. However, upon take-off he realises he has a stowaway; Russell, an 8-year-old who has the same intrepid instinct as Carl.

I won't tell you the plot of this film and ruin it for you - CAREFUL - there are lots on here that do just that.
But I would like to share with you the fantastic experience my family had watching this at the cinema. I (a slightly cynical 47 year old man) cried in the first ten minutes, was amazed and delighted in the next ten, almost split my sides at the affectionate, very real (but simultaneously very surreal!) depiction of dogs, lost myself in the adventure and tension and completely forgot time. At times, my kids (6 and 8) almost lost bladder control with laughter and sat at the edge of their seats from start to finish. As I said, Delightful, Moving, Funny, Exciting and Inspiring. One of Pixar's best; does praise come higher than that?

'Up' merely cememts Pixar's reputation as the most intelligent and innovative film studio of the moment. From the incredible opening 10 minutes, destined to be a cinematic classic for ever, to the touching final scene, I was completely and utterly entranced.
A film for all ages and one that perfectly sums up the love and laughter that only the very greatest films can manage to pull of.

WOW! Within the first 10 mins so many of our family aged 5 to 66 were on the edge of tears - stunned into silence. My husband turned to me with moistened eyes and kissed me and held me!! Such a tender, funny, soul seraching story and superbly characterised. How could you not love the little boy scout? Our son and his wife are into the final round of IVF, my dad had just died and it hit home. Thank you
