This was an interesting stage in ABC's career. They were now down to two members - Martin Fry and Mark White. They had recorded the perfect album ('Lexicon of Love') and tried to break America with the 'How to be a Billionaire' album and were now seeking a change in direction. 'Up' saw the duo take a far more soulful approach to their music, with more gentle tones and harmonies which took them a step further away from the sound for which they were best known. In many respects, when you analyse their career path, this album was a logical step. However, it failed to yield any major hits despite the quality and few if any of these songs feature in their live repertoire today. That said, this is a nice album with much to recommend it, but it may also be a step too far from 'Lexicon of Love' for many people.

Reissue bonus tracks different from original release 14 Nov 2008
By G. Gallagher - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
This release found ABC fully embracing dance/house/ electronica music - and you'll be hard pressed to hear any guitar whatsoever. I love all that ABC does, and while this release did not do well, it still holds up as a great release.

Just wanted to point out that the original 1989 CD release had a total of 11 tracks including 3 bonus tracks:
One Better World (Pickering-Park mix)
The Greatest Love of All (Kraushaar mix)
Never More Than Now (Kraushaar mix)

THe Reissued release has 13 tracks including 5 bonus tracks with only one of the bonus tracks the same as the original release:
One Better World (Pickering-Park mix)
One Better World (Percapella mix)
The Real Thing (Frankie Knuckles mix)
The Greatest Love of All (May Day mix)
Paper Thin (1986 demo)

music for the people 21 Dec 2003
By Paulo Bayard - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
When you hear ABC it is more than remembering the good years from a certain generation. You can hear quality as you are not used in these days. All I can ask is for more. Where is Martin Fry and ABC now? Can anyone answer me?
We just can't be away from more of that stuff. This is not just one of the best ABC albuns, but also one that shows what we don`t have anymore on the radio. It is easy to write in magazines about new bands, but not to hear things like this, that only heart can tell you what is about.
I really hope you can hear this album and have the same sense that finally happyness can be a song, ou an album.
Great Album! 13 Nov 2011

"Where Is The Heaven" rocks the house!!! Great techno feel to it! The drumbeat is so infectious you cannot keep your feet still!
